Megan Fox has spoken out about being "so proud" of helping so many young women come out as part of the LGBTQ+ community.

The 37-year-old actor spoke to the New York Post while promoting her Netflix horror, Night Teeth. Fox revealed that due to her openness about being bisexual, along with her LGBTQ+ roles in movies like Jennifer's Body (2009), many fans have confided in her about their own sexuality.

Fox told the Post: "I can’t tell you how many girls, from 30 down into their teens — or, f**k that, my age, too — come up to me and are like, ‘I realized I was gay because of you,’ or ‘I felt comfortable coming out because of you,’ because of ‘Jennifer’s Body’ and the interviews I did about being bisexual before it was cool."

Back in 2009, the actor first announced she was bisexual, telling Esquire magazine: "I think people are born bisexual and they make subconscious choices based on the pressures of society.

"I have no question in my mind about being bisexual."

She further clarified in the same interview: "I’m not a lesbian. I just think that all humans are born with the ability to be attracted to both sexes."

Additionally, earlier this year Fox celebrated Pride with a post on Instagram by showing off her rainbow-colored nails, along with the caption: "Putting the B in #LGBTQIA for over two decades."

The Transformers star told the Post that having fans open up to her about the part she's played in their coming out stories is "so important" to her and something that she's "so proud of".

"If my purpose on Earth was to help one girl come out of the closet and feel OK about it, I had an amazing purpose here," she added.

At the time of her coming out to the public, Fox - who is currently in a relationship with 33-year-old rapper Machine Gun Kelly - did also call herself a "hypocrite", admitting: "I would never date a girl who was bisexual, because that means they also sleep with men, and men are so dirty that I’d never want to sleep with a girl who had slept with a man."

Elsewhere in her Esquire interview, Fox opened up about how her good looks have both helped and hurt her career in Hollywood.

"It p***es me when people f***ing complain that I’m too beautiful to get a part," she told the publication.

"That’s bulls***," she continued, adding: "If I weren’t attractive I wouldn’t be working at all."

Fox also admitted that she would be keeping away from mainstream Hollywood, saying: "Yeah, it’s worth it. Because if it was – if I wasn’t making that decision I wouldn’t, I would be f***ing, not literally f***ing away my career, but I’d be s***ting away my career."
