Mia Khalifa has shared an emotional official statement following her split with her husband of two years.
The 28-year-old Lebanese-American model and influencer took to her official Instagram account on Wednesday, July 21, to break the unhappy news with her 24 million followers on the platform.
Khalifa wrote that she and her spouse, 28-year-old Swedish chef Robert Sandberg, had made the decision to separate, stating: "We can confidently say we gave it out all in making our marriage work but after almost a year of therapy and efforts we are walking away knowing we have a friend in each other, and that we truly tried.
"We will always love and respect each other because we know that not one isolated incident caused our split, but rather, a culmination of unresolvable, fundamental differences that no one can blame the other for.
She continued: "We are closing this chapter with no regrets and both starting our own, separately, but connected through incredible family, friends, and our love for our dogs.
"This has been long overdue, but we are glad we took our time and gave it our all, and can walk away saying we tried our absolute hardest."
Khalifa first broke the news of her engagement on Instagram back in March of 16. Sharing a picture of the two of them together, she captioned it:
"Thank you a million times over for the entire team at @smythchicago for helping @robertsandberg propose this trip and dinner was supposed to celebrate him getting his visa!
"Robert has planted the seed so deep in my mind for so long that he hates restaurant proposals so I never, EVER, saw this coming. I love y’all so much! Thank you!"
The couple wed in a ceremony held at their home in June 2020 after their original nuptials were postponed due to the pandemic.
Prior to this, Khalifa was married to her high school boyfriend, whose identity has not been made public, in February 2011. She separated from him in 2014 and they divorced in 2016.
Khalifa has also recently taken to social media to inform her fans and followers of the reason why she no longer dons her trademark glasses.
