Miley Cyrus opens up about secret relationship with Disney co-star
Miley Cyrus has gone all out on celebrating the 20th anniversary of her breakout, starring role in Hannah Montana, but she’s also revealed some Disney gossip fans may not have been aware of.
Cyrus rose to fame as the star of the Disney sitcom, which followed teenager Miley Stewart - who lives a secret, double life as pop sensation Hannah Montana.
The show’s big 20 year anniversary was marked by a special by the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special on Disney+ - where Cyrus revealed for the first time that she actually dated one of her most famous Disney peers.

Speaking to the special’s host, Call Her Daddy’s Alex Cooper, Cyrus spoke on a previously secret relationship with Dylan Sprouse, one of the stars of another hit Disney comedy, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
“Dylan Sprouse was my boyfriend,” Cyrus told Cooper. “I thought he was the cutest. It’s true, it’s confirmed!”
Dylan Sprouse famously starred alongside his twin brother, Cole Sprouse, on The Suite Life - one of the most popular shows of its time, its popularity was such that a special crossover edition was even aired with Hannah Montana and That’s So Raven.
“Dylan was my crush,” Cyrus elaborated on the anniversary special. “[The twins’] dad would take us to sushi. I was into the whole culture, and it was a two-for-one. Like, bring the brother. Hello!”
Sprouse himself had previously hinted that he and Cyrus had dated briefly during their Disney heyday…though apparently their relationship didn’t last long, due to the arrival of one Nick Jonas.
“We met [on the set of Hannah Montana],” Sprouse once told Jimmy Kimmel in 2008. “We dated… and then Nick Jonas walked by and it was over.”
What was Miley Cyrus’ relationship with Nick Jonas?
Cyrus’ relationship with Jonas is much more well-documented. The two teen idols dated from 2006-2007, with Cyrus previously saying they were “in love” and started dating soon after they met.
Speaking to the Every Single Album podcast last June, Cyrus said that one of the Jonas Brothers’ big breaks as a band, opening for her on her world tour, was only arranged because of her relationship with Nick.
“Literally, the reason that the Jonas Brothers were on tour with me was because Nick was my boyfriend,” she said. “I was like ‘OK, well I’ll go on tour if my boyfriend can come,’ and they said ‘Cute, have your boyfriend open the show.’ Boom!”
However, like most teenagers, the relationship ended with a messy break-up. A break-up so fraught, in fact, that it inspired one of Cyrus’ earliest singles, the angsty '7 Things'.
Nick Jonas is now happily married to Indian actress Priyanka Chopra, with whom he shares a daughter, Malti, born in 2022.
“I like Nick,” Cyrus went on to say. “I’m into him, he’s married with children now. We’re all moving on. Everything is good in the world.”
Cyrus herself is now engaged to musician and producer Maxx Morando, who worked on her most recent album, Something Beautiful, following her divorce from husband Liam Hemsworth in 2019.
