There was a time when Monica Lewinsky, a White House intern serving under Bill Clinton, was arguably one of the most talked-about public figures in the world. In the mid-nineties, Lewinsky became embroiled in a political scandal at the age of 22, after she was accused of having an affair with the President. Now 47 years old, Lewinsky is a journalist, writer, and activist, who has done much to open up conversations about media harassment and cyberbullying. And last week was no different when Lewinsky responded to a Twitter thread asking: "What's the most high-risk, low-reward thing you've ever done?" with a suggestive eye emoji. [[twitterwidget||https://twitter.com/MonicaLewinsky/status/1371638236699709440]] Then in March of 2021, a Twitter user asked: "If Twitter were around in the 90s, name a famous event/moment that definitely would’ve had the TL in shambles?" to which Lewinsky responded: "not playing." In 2020, Lewinsky poked fun at herself again when Twitter influencer Sarah Cooper wrote: "My advice to the younger generation: make your mistakes now. Because by the time you're 40, you'll barely even remember them!" Lewinsky promptly retorted: "uhhhmmmmmm. [sic]" [[twitterwidget||https://twitter.com/MonicaLewinsky/status/1280663118771703809]] And in August of 2019, Lewinsky reacted to a quote by former VEEP Mike Pence, who stated that Americans should "spend more time on [their] knees than on the internet" in a reference to the importance of prayer. [[twitterwidget||https://twitter.com/MonicaLewinsky/status/1159068458111262720]] However, when journalist Lauren Duca asked: "OK, who’s gonna tell him?", alluding to the inadvertent innuendo in Pence's sound-byte, Lewinsky quipped: "def not me." Again, in 2019, when author Adam Grant asked Twitter users about the worst piece of career advice they'd ever received, Lewinsky wrote back: "An internship at the white house will be amazing on your resume." [[twitterwidget||https://twitter.com/MonicaLewinsky/status/1150348061442551808]] Lewinsky made headlines around the world after her two-year-long affair with Clinton was leaked to the press by civil servant Linda Tripp. Clinton initially denied the rumor, employing the now-famous statement: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman." However, Lewinsky would later testify to having had nine sexual encounters in the Oval Office with Clinton between 1995 and 1997.
