An Australian newspaper had planned to out Rebel Wilson just before the actress revealed that she was in a relationship with a woman.
On Thursday, Wilson shared with her 11.1 million Instagram followers that she is dating fashion designer Ramona Agruma.
"I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess," wrote the Bridesmaids actor, before adding the hashtag "Love is love".
Over the weekend, Sydney Morning Herald columnist Andrew Hornery explained that Wilson had posted about her new romance after the outlet had reached out for comment with plans to do a piece on it.
"In a perfect world, 'outing' same-sex celebrity relationships should be a redundant concept in 2022. Love is love, right?" Hornery wrote. "As Rebel Wilson knows, we do not live in a perfect world."
Hornery continued: "So, it was an abundance of caution and respect that this media outlet emailed Rebel Wilson's representatives on Thursday morning, giving her two days to comment on her new relationship with another woman, LA leisure wear designer Ramona Agruma, before publishing a single word.
"Big mistake. Wilson opted to gazump the story, posting about her new 'Disney Princess' on Instagram early Friday morning, the same platform she had previously used to brag about her handsome ex-boyfriend, wealthy American beer baron Jacob Busch."

Wilson and Busch had called it quits around early February, four months after they made their relationship Instagram official.
A friend of the Pitch Perfect star told People at the time: "Jacob was an amazing guy but just not the one for her long-term."
Wilson had gone public with their romance in September as she shared a picture of them getting on a helicopter along with actors Helen Mirren and Kate Beckinsale. The pair made their red carpet debut soon after at the Monte-Carlo Gala For Planetary Health in Monaco.
"This is the first guy she's met who is a match for her humor and personality. Someone who has his own life and success and isn't intimidated by her," a source told the outlet at the time. "He's entrepreneurial and they're both very business-minded."
