According to reports from Page Six and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Records, the 33-year-old was taken into police custody at 7AM and booked into the station at 7:57AM.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told the outlet that Weston was arrested in relation to an incident that occurred back in April.

It is not currently known why it took so many weeks for his arrest to occur.

According to reports from The Sun, the arrest is allegedly in relation to a mental health crisis the actor suffered weeks ago, in which he allegedly assaulted his mother, Christina Fulton.

It comes after Christina, 57, was photographed with a badly bruised eye and forehead while out in public.

A spokesperson for the LAPD told the outlet: "I can confirm that Weston Cage Coppola was arrested today for assault with a deadly weapon. He was arrested by LAPD’s 77th Division."

The outlet reports that he was released on a $150,000 bail at around 10AM, with his father, Nicolas Cage, believed to be the one who paid it.

A source close to the family claimed to the US Sun: "The family knew this was going to happen but needless to say, it is a very big shock."

Following the incident in April, Christina released a statement, saying, as reported by People: "Weston and I had no argument prior to the incident.

"On Sunday, April 28, I was reached out to by several of Weston’s best friends for assistance because they were experiencing Weston in a mental-health crisis."

She added that she "acted swiftly to ensure [Weston's] safety," explaining: "Upon my arrival, I was met by my son who clearly was in a state of a mental-health breakdown, which in turn became a horrific experience.

"I have always supported helping my son with his mental-health struggles. I am doing all I can to get him the continued support he needs."

LAPD confirmed to the outlet that a battery report was taken at the time of the incident, which reportedly left Christina covered in bruises.

Weston was previously arrested in 2017, when he was 26, for a DUI and hit and run after allegedly hitting several signs, parked cars, and mailboxes before crashing into a tree.

Police had been called after Weston allegedly fled the scene of a separate accident, which happened a mile away.

After being examined at a hospital, he was charged with a DUI and arrested on a $30,000 bail.

After his arrest this week, an attorney for Christina told Page Six: "My client has fully cooperated with the investigation and supports any decision made by law enforcement after they independently examined the evidence and the facts. This is a criminal matter and my client is simply a victim and witness."

Weston is the only child Christina and Nicolas share from their relationship, which lasted from 1988 to 1991.

Nicolas, 60, also has son Kal-El Cage, 18, with his ex-wife Alice Kim, and a one-year-old daughter called August with his wife, Riko Shibata.
