Instead of attempting to re-open his restaurant amid the coronavirus outbreak, rapper 2 Chainz is using everything at his disposal to feel Atlanta's homeless population.

The rapper, who hails from the American city, fed over 120 homeless people yesterday - on the day he was supposed to reopen Escobar Restaurant and Tapas for table service.

Taking to Twitter to share the news, 2 Chainz wrote, "Instead of opening Escobar Restaurant up today we decided to feed the homeless."

The 42-year-old and his business partner, Snoop Dillard, handed out free meals in downtown Atlanta, as members of the community queued outside while abiding by social distancing guidelines.

Per TMZ, Dillard even drove around the neighbourhood to hand out pasta dishes to those living on the streets.

The rapper was roundly praised on social media, with one Twitter user writing: "I knew there was something I always liked about you - you have a sense of humor (I mean duh, listen to his bars), you are a connoisseur of everything (expensivest) AND charitable? One day I'll be as impactful - even if its only 1%. Thank you, 2Chainz."

This comes after 2 Chainz was criticised for announcing plans to reopen his restaurant for table service as Georgia's governor Brian Kemp decided to lift several of the state's lockdown measures, despite widespread condemnation.

The rapper and Dillard quickly backtracked on their plans, however, telling TMZ that they don't currently know when they will open their doors for dine-in customers.

"After careful consideration, we are not going to open our restaurants on Monday. It has not officially been decided when we will start having dine-in service," 2 Chainz told the publication.

Escobar Restaurant and Tapas is currently open for takeout only.
