Reese Witherspoon has opened up about the possibility of running for political office in a new interview.

Bateman asked the 44-year-old Legally Blonde actress whether she would ever consider filling a Senate seat, stating: "I think you’d get a lot of the vote." Witherspoon quipped that: "our standards have become pretty low in this country."
She went on:
"I wouldn't say never, because I don't know where I'm going to be when I'm, you know, 65."
"I think we need better representation and balance. Women are 50% of the population, but we're not 50% of the representation in government, which is bizarre, particularly when they're adjudicating over our bodies."

She also spoke about her new production company, Hello Sunshine, which aims to create content focused on women, and finding more inclusive roles for women in the entertainment industry.
Commenting on her initiative, Witherspoon stated: "It's interesting how no one needs to be the number one. We sort of pass the baton almost."

She added:
"It's always kind of deferring power or sharing responsibility. So it's almost this power balance and that there's no one person sort of dictating or mandating exactly what's going to happen. It's collective ideas. And it works really well."
Per Deadline, Witherspoon's production company is currently working on a third Legally Blonde 3. Co-written by Dan Goor, who's known for his work on The Daily Show and Late Night with Conan O'Brien, the movie will see Witherspoon reprise the role of Elle Woods.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Witherspoon spoke about the project by stating: "[Elle's] a very beloved character. You just want her to go on a hero's journey like she does in the first movie, and I'm having a great time working on it."
