Legendary nature documentary filmmaker Sir David Attenborough is due to begin teaching remotely as part of the BBC’s efforts to educate school kids during the closure of schools during the coronavirus pandemic.

The acclaimed presenter will be teaching British children geography lessons, and explain topics such as marine life and biology, as part of the broadcasting corporation's Bitesize Daily initiative, which aims to offer 14 weeks of curriculum-based learning for kids across the United Kingdom.

Sir David recently delivered this speech to world leaders on the dangers of climate change:

According to a recent press release, the lessons are due to be available on BBC Bitesize Daily on BBC iPlayer and BBC Red Button, and consist of six 20-minute programs each day, aimed at different age groups.

There will also be daily maths and English lessons, as well as educational podcasts and programs on BBC Four on weekday evenings, aimed at supporting GCSE and A-level courses. More than 150 new lessons are due to be added each week to the Bitesize website and app.

Attenborough is not the only celebrity to participate in the scheme, with Eastenders star Danny Dyer also teaching history, Professor Brian Cox teaching physics, and Doctor Who's Jodie Whittaker, former MP Ed Balls, Liam Payne and footballer Sergio Aguero all teaching their own subjects.

Commenting on the special initiative in an official statement, Director BBC Children's Education Alice Webb stated: "We're proud that the BBC can bring together so many people to offer such a wide-ranging package of support to help children and parents right across the UK at such a challenging time."

She added: "We said the BBC would be there for people through this crisis, and we meant it. It's vital that every child is able to continue learning - and the lessons we're putting on will make sure they have fun at the same time."
