Smallville star Tom Welling responds after accidentally 'exposing' himself in hotel window selfie
Actor Tom Welling has had a hilarious response after accidentally uploading a supposed X-rated snap to his Instagram stories over the weekend.
Welling, who starred as Clark Kent in the CW Superman teen drama Smallville, seemed to accidentally 'expose' himself to the entire internet when posting a picture of his stay in New York, where he appeared to be fully nude in the reflection of his hotel window.
Now, the star has taken the slip-up in his stride.
Tom Welling's hilarious response to 'exposing' himself in hotel room
Despite Welling's X-rated Instagram story only being up for a short time, it caught fire and spread throughout the internet.
Even though Welling quickly deleted the story in question, everyone was soon talking about it. But rather than double down or just ignore it, the Cheaper by the Dozen star chose to instead lean into the accidental chaos he'd caused.
Welling left a comment on a humorous Instagram reel poking fun at the incident, a skit of a man wandering NYC taking pictures before squinting up to Welling's hotel room.
"POV: you’re a tourist in NYC and see Tom Welling standing at his hotel window on October 10th," the caption to the reel reads.
Responding in the comment section, Welling said through his official, verified account: "Came for the sights."
This remains the only official statement Welling has made on the incident. He was staying in New York to appear at the New York Comic Con (NYCC) and chose to not speak about his viral moment while attending the event over the weekend.
Who is Tom Welling and what was the response to star 'exposing' himself?
Tom Welling, 49, is an actor best known for his role as Clark Kent in the CW teen drama Smallville, which explored the early years of Clark Kent before he became Superman.
The show was a massive success, running for a mammoth 10 seasons and logging over 200 episodes. The success of the show turned Welling into a teen idol.
He also appeared in the 2003 remake of Cheaper by the Dozen starring Steve Martin and Hilary Duff, returning for the sequel in 2005.
It turns out one of Welling's former Smallville castmates also got in on the fun too - ironic, considering Welling was only in New York to celebrate the show's 25th anniversary at Comic Con.
Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor in the CW show, jokingly recreated Welling's Instagram Story of the New York skyline through his hotel room window - but kept his clothes on.
Welling didn't explicitly comment on Rosenbaum's post, but he did repost it to his followers.
