A woman claiming to be Miley Cyrus’ real biological mother has had her allegations rubbished by the star’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus.
Miley Cyrus is, of course, one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, with world-conquering hits like Flowers, Party in the USA and Wrecking Ball.
She came to fame as the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus, famous for his hit Achy Breaky Heart, and his then-wife, Tish Cyrus.
The accusations came from a woman named Jayme Lee, who alleged in a lawsuit that she actually gave birth to Miley when she was just 12 years old.
What are the claims from the woman who says she’s Miley Cyrus’s real biological mother?
In her lawsuit, Lee alleges that she entered into a “private adoption agreement” with both Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus, but was caused “severe emotional distress” when Billy Ray apparently “misrepresented the circumstances” of the alleged adoption.
Lee claims that through the alleged adoption agreement, she would get to name Miley and work as her nanny and piano teacher.
In the suit, Lee accused both Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus of “breach of contract, fraud and misrepresentation, intentional inflection of emotional distress and unlawful interference with parental rights.”
Lee wanted the Cyrus’ to agree to a supervised DNA test (both paternal and maternal) of Miley and her parents, and for the court to also revisit legality of the alleged adoption pending results.
Her request for the trial to be heard in court was dismissed in October.
What has Billy Ray Cyrus said in response to the claims?
This November 20, Billy Ray Cyrus moved to dismiss all of Lee’s claims. According to the Daily Mail, he did so, accusing Lee of filing the suit for “the purpose of harassing” him and his family.
Cyrus said Lee’s accusations were “false and absurd,” and that he’d only recently been made aware of her false claims.
In a statement, Cyrus’ legal team said: “The Court dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice this morning and awarded Mr Cyrus the recovery of his reasonable and necessary attorney’s fees and costs.”
Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus divorced in 2023 after nearly 30 years of marriage.
Billy Ray went on to marry an Australian singer, Firerose, before they divorced just one year later in 2024.
He is now dating the British actress Elizabeth Hurley.
Tish has since moved on, too, marrying Prison Break actor Dominic Purcell in 2023.
