Chris Rock has opened up about how it felt to get slapped by Will Smith.

The comedian joked about the controversial Oscars moment alongside Kevin Hart, during a stand-up show on Sunday (July 24) at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey.

Back in March, Smith shocked the world by storming on stage and hitting Rock across the face after the comedian poked fun at his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Rock's joke about Pinkett Smith appearing in a potential GI Jane reboot because of her closely shaved head did not go down well with the Matrix star, who suffers from alopecia.

Watch Rock tell the joke that landed him in hot water with Smith:

In footage from the ceremony, Smith can be seen marching on stage, hitting Rock, then returning to his seat and yelling at him: "Keep my wife's name out of your f***ing mouth!"

Now, Rock has claimed that he is not a "victim" - but that Smith's attack still "hurt".

"I'm not a victim, motherf*****," the comedian said per a report by Us Weekly.

"Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face," he continued. "Yeah, that s*** hurt, motherf*****. But I shook that s*** off and went to work the next day. I don't go to the hospital for a paper cut."

Since the altercation, Smith has publically apologized for his outburst and resigned from the Academy.

Per Deadline, he released a statement saying: "My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable."

"The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home. I betrayed the trust of the Academy," the King William star continued.

"I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken. I want to put the focus back on those who deserve attention for their achievements and allow the Academy to get back to the incredible work it does to support creativity and artistry in film," he added.

The actor ended his statement by announcing that he would be resigning from the Academy, writing: "I am resigning from membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and will accept any further consequences the Board deems appropriate."
