A news outlet has sparked outrage amongst fans about women's beauty standards after declaring that "Hilary Duff [is] still looking great at age 35".

Hilary Duff burst onto the scene in 2001 at the age of 14 with her hit Disney sitcom, Lizzie McGuire, and her success grew with an acting career that went from strength to strength starring in movies such as Cheaper By The Dozen and A Cinderella Story.

The actress is currently starring in How I Met Your Father, a spin-off of the popular How I Met Your Mother series.

Now aged 35, Duff has recently modeled for Women's Health Australia, where she sports a blue bathing suit for the cover story of the publication.

In the story, the actress opens up about her battles with an eating disorder when she was 17, and how she changed her focus to getting strong, as opposed to being very thin - which she was led to believe actresses should be.

The article promotes body positivity and how to alter your lifestyle to be healthy. Duff said: "[I’m] appreciating my health, doing activities that make me feel strong instead of just bettering the outside of my body."

However, one news outlet appeared to disregard the message of the story and instead focused on Duff's age, which was met with a wave of outrage from fans.

Taking to Twitter, viral news publication Daily Loud shared the images of the actress with the caption: "Hillary Duff still looking great at age 35."

Fans flocked to the comments to voice their disapproval, with one person saying: "Why y’all think women are supposed to look bad and old at 35???"

A second person added: "Do you think women dry up like raisins at 35 ?? What headline is this?" with a third saying: "Still…?? I hate this kind of reporting. You never see the same for men - do better."

A fourth person concluded: "This is an intolerably ignorant tweet."

Another person noted that these standards are applied to women more than they are to men, comparing the reaction to Duff's images to George Clooney, stating that nobody would react in this way to a photo shoot of the actor.

The Daily Loud responded to their own tweet, appearing to blame cancel culture for the reaction.

"I said this woman looked gorgeous for having 3 kids at 35 years old. You can’t even compliment a woman anymore without someone being 'upset'… cancel culture crazy but hey thanks for the press," the outlet wrote, only to be criticized further by social media commenters.
