Warning: Spoilers ahead for Euphoria Season 3, Episode 7
The third season of HBO's popular teen drama Euphoria has split opinions thus far, as its penultimate episode aired last night (May 24) with a huge character's death.
Ever since the first season of the show aired in 2019, the actors involved have seen their careers skyrocket, cementing their place among Hollywood's elite due to the success of Euphoria.
But as rumors swirl that this will be the show's final season, one of the biggest names has now been axed in a gruesome death.
Most viewers will have their own thoughts on Sydney Sweeney's character, Cassie, and her venture into OnlyFans, but there's another character whose development has caught people off guard.
This season features a five-year time jump from high school, which is where season two ended, and after catching up with the main characters, we notice that things are very different.
And following the death of none other than Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi), the series won't be the same.
Earlier episodes in season three revealed that Nate ended up with Cassie after all, though their engagement is far from happy.
While Cassie wants to spend tens of thousands of dollars on flowers for their wedding, Nate keeps the secret that he owes around a million dollars to a gang.
It's what ultimately leads his on-screen fiancée to pursue adult content, which included dressing up like a dog and posing nude with a snake.
In Sunday's episode, Nate was placed in a coffin by Naz (Jack Topalian), the gangster he owes the money to.
He would be buried alive as a result, as while there was a pipe leading to the surface so that he could breathe, a rattlesnake slithered down the pipe and fatally bit him.
Naz had only planned to leave Nate down there for 72 hours while he could get the money with Nate's wife, Cassie.
But the rattlesnake had other plans, and while Naz wanted to take the money he was owed, he also wouldn't make it after being fatally shot by Season 3’s other gangster, Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje).
Cassie and Maddy (Alexa Demie) then tried to get the money together while their ex-partner was being dug up, only to find out he had died.
In a segment at the end of the episode, Elordi said of Nate's passing: “It was a cool way to go, Nate is somebody who’s made so many mistakes and so many dark choices.”
He described the moment as "bittersweet," making sure to praise the show for being a "massive" part of “not just my career, but my life.”
Elordi added that he was “proud” to have been part of it.
Speaking to Variety in 2023, Elordi admitted: “Euphoria changed my life.”
While he had his first leading role breakout through Saltburn's release in 2023, it turned out that Wuthering Heights co-star Margot Robbie recommended Elordi for the role after seeing him perform as Nate Jacobs.
“I wasn’t booking jobs,” Elordi told GQ UK of his acting career back in 2019.
“I think I had – I don’t know, $400 or $800 left in my bank account – and Euphoria was my last audition before I went home for a little while to make some money and recuperate.”
