Fans stunned after Gwyneth Paltrow debuts NSFW 'naked dress' during Oscars
Gwyneth Paltrow showcased a daring look at this evening’s 98th Academy Awards, with an unexpected detail catching some people’s eye.
Paltrow, who returned to acting in Marty Supreme recently, stepped out with the rest of the stars in Hollywood tonight for the movie business’ big night.
Gwyneth Paltrow turned a few heads on the red carpet
Gwyneth Paltrow, who stepped away from acting for a while to focus on her lifestyle brand Goop - among other things - returned to movies this year for Timothée Chalamet's hit Marty Surpreme.
Despite admitting that she was a bit scared returning to the screen, the film has been a big hit for everyone, including director Josh Safdie.
Chalamet has been involved in a bit of controversy recently for his comments about ballet and opera, but his co-star also attracted a bit of attention on the red carpet for her outfit.
To this evening's ceremony, Paltrow wore a white custom Giorgio Armani Privé gown with a strapless neck, embellished with crystals, and cut out sides that showed off a pair of nude-colored trousers underneath.
However, to the untrained eye, it looked like she wasn’t wearing any underwear.
The so-called ‘Naked Dress’ had a cutout that runs the whole way down the side, creating a very distinct effect.
Of course, she’s not really naked, but it certainly does look like it.
Paltrow is no stranger to the stage at the Oscars
She’s not in the running for an award this year, but Paltrow has enjoyed significant success before now at the Academy Awards.
She won Best Actress in 1999 for Shakespeare in Love, which must be a career highlight.
However, in recent times she has eschewed the limelight and stepped back from movies to work on other projects.
Now, returning to films, she admitted that there was a bit of trepidation putting herself back in front of the camera.
She admitted to feeling ‘petrified’ about it, and ‘very rusty’ when she first kicked off.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in December, she said: “I was like, ‘Oh f***, do I remember how to do this?’
“It had been seven years. But I didn’t get the bug back until I was on set doing the hair-and-makeup test.
“That’s when I was like, ‘Oh, what is this weird feeling I’m having? Oh my God, this is excitement. I’m actually really excited to be here.’”
