A terrifying new Netflix thriller - which some viewers are saying is even scarier than Bird Box - is sweeping the streaming service, and some people are going so far as to claim it's provoking cases of insomnia.

The movie, entitled Secret Obsession, stars former Disney channel actress Brenda Song alongside Mike Vogel. It tells the tale of a woman named Jennifer, who suffers from a bout of amnesia after sustaining a head injury. Jennifer wakes up in hospital, where a man called Russell greets her at her bedside, claiming to be her husband.

Jennifer agrees to go home with Russell to a remote property in the mountains, but his strange mannerisms and controlling behaviour soon lead her to question whether or not Russell is who he says he is. In fact, is he even really her husband?

Commenting on the role of Jennifer in a recent interview with Decider, Song stated: "I hate being sad. But I spent so many hours on that set feeling sad because I had to get into that place of fear and anger ... I’m usually a very lighthearted person and I’ve learned to make light of tragedies and things in my life.  To be able to step back and step into these dark places… At the end of the day, it was satisfying."

She added that her close bond with her co-star, Vogel, made things easier, stating: "By the end, we were having a hard time being angry at each other. We kept laughing during intimate scenes. We knew each other so well that he felt like an older brother. I was like, ‘Oh no! This is where we’re at now!’ A lot of those scenes, we’d be laughing, and then I’d have to be like, ‘Okay I need a second to get into character,’ before it jumps right into him chasing me down a hill."
