After the success of season one, Virgin Island returned last month with another group of sexually inexperienced adults hoping to change their lives on a remote Croatian island.
The workshops, emotional breakthroughs, and awkward moments are all back, but there is still one question viewers cannot stop asking: Did anyone lose their virginity this season?
Ellen, the oldest participant in this year’s cast at 35, spoke exclusively to VT about her experience on the show and finally addressed the mystery fans are desperate to solve. While she stopped short of revealing spoilers, she hinted that viewers should expect things to “ramp up” as the series continues.
The programme follows 12 adults as they work with sex and relationship specialists to improve their confidence, intimacy, and emotional well-being.
In season one, 24-year-old accountant Dave became the only participant to lose his virginity on screen during an intimate session with surrogate partner Kat Slade. Naturally, viewers have been wondering if history repeats itself this year.
When VT asked whether anyone “went all the way” this season, Ellen stayed tight-lipped.
“So I can't discuss that, but I think the show in itself, people think, oh, you're just going on there to sort of, you know, lose your virginity, but actually, though much more than that.”
She also explained that every contestant arrived for very different reasons and that intimacy means different things to different people.
“And it's interesting... we had people within the LGBTQ+ community participating, and everyone's idea of losing your virginity is different.”
Ellen admits she initially struggled during several workshops, particularly exercises involving dating profiles and physical intimacy. Watching the episodes back has also been emotional for her.
One of Ellen’s biggest breakthroughs came during a one-to-one therapy session with surrogate partner Kat Slade. After feeling overwhelmed by the dating side of the experiment, she slowly began to feel more comfortable opening up.
“But then, as soon as Kat sort of started talking to me, and we started doing the sort of, I'll touch you, and, you know, so we had consent. I felt immediately comfortable.”
The biggest difference since filming, however, has been in her day-to-day confidence. Ellen said she now finds it far easier to socialize and approach people.
“I'm so much more confident... I can go and meet people, and I'll happily chat to people.”
She even revealed that members of her CrossFit community noticed the transformation.
“It's amazing to see you, Ellen, come out of your shell,” they tell her.
Ellen admits that revealing her age on the show initially made her anxious after the rest of the cast reacted with surprise.
“And when I said it, and everyone reacted, like, 'Oh, wow,' like really, really shocked that.”
Looking back, though, she believes appearing on the series at 35 could help others feel less alone.
As for whether viewers will finally get the answer they are waiting for, Ellen remained careful not to spoil what is coming next.
“Hopefully, you'll find out what happens, but... I think it's going to ramp up, definitely, and it's going to be more intimate.”
