Gigi Hadid was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after flying from the United States to the Cayman Islands, last week, according to reports from TMZ.

The supermodel landed at Owen Roberts International Airport via private plane on July 10 and went through customs as normal with her luggage. However, the outlet claims when the Customs & Border control agents scanned her bags and then searched them by hand, they found a small amount of weed and smoking utensils.

It was determined that the pot was for personal use only but even so, Hadid and her travel companion, Leah Nicole McCarthy were still arrested on charges of importation of marijuana and importation of utensils to smoke cannabis.

In a statement issued to E! News, a representative for Hadid said, "Gigi was traveling with marijuana purchased legally in NYC with a medical license. It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island."

The 28-year-old was processed at the Royal Cayman Islands Detention Centre and was arrainged for bail and then later released pending prosecution of her case.

On July 12, two days after arriving in the Cayman Islands, Hadid and her friend both pled guilty to the formal charges during a court appearance.

Despite also being fined $1,000, Hadid did not receive a conviction on her record, according to TMZ.
