Hugh Jackman has pleaded with fans about the importance of sunscreen after revealing that he is undergoing further tests for skin cancer.

As per the BBC, 54-year-old Jackman had his first scare in 2013 when he had skin cancer removed and has since had at least six procedures.

In 2021, the Wolverine actor had inconclusive results following a biopsy on his face, revealing that he likely had Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC).

Fans have naturally been concerned for the much-loved actor over the years, and he has taken to Instagram to update his followers on his latest test results.

Check out what Jackman had to say to his fans:

The video opens with Jackman wearing a bandage over his nose and he begins by stating that he wanted his fans to hear the news from him as opposed to other sources.

"I've just had two biopsies done. I just went to my doctor, Dr. Iron, who's awesome. She just saw little things that could be or could not be Basal Cell in her opinion. I'll find out in two or three days and as soon as I know, I'll let you know," Jackman reassured viewers.

He added further reassurance by saying: "Just to remind you, Basal Cell in the world of skin cancers is the least dangerous of them all."

Jackman then turned his attention to offering a word of warning to those viewing the video as he shed light on the importance of wearing sunscreen in the summer.

"Please wear sunscreen. It is just not worth it," Jackman stated. "No matter how much you want to tan, trust me, trust me, trust me. Put some sunscreen on. You'll still have an incredible time out there, alright? Please be safe."

The actor noted that the sun spots he is getting removed from his skin are a result of exposure to the sun from 25 years ago.

The actor doubled down in the caption of the video by stating: "I know you’ve heard me talk about my basal cell carcinomas before. I’m going to keep talking about them, if need be. And if it reminds even one person to put on sunscreen with a high SPF, then I’m happy."

It would seem that his message was well received, as people flooded the comments with their experiences.

"Being a Queenslander and having a very small spot on the inside of my arm that turned out to be an early stage melanoma. ( 16 stitches ). Definitely keep spreading the message about safe sun care. So important. Also get regular skin checks," one person said.

A second added: "Thank you for sharing this. I just had a basal cell removed from my nose, I’m your age and yes, the damage was done 25 years ago. I loved the beach and a tan. Mohs surgery is no fun kids! And disfiguring."

It seems as if the pleas have not gone unheard, as a third person commented: "Just booked an appointment with a dermatologist because of this post."
