Jason Aldean has been dropped by his PR firm of 17 years after his wife Brittany made comments about transgender people that were widely deemed transphobic.
On Thursday, the co-owner of The GreenRoom - the 45-year-old country singer's PR firm - told Billboard they have decided to "step away" from their work with Aldean.
Tyne Parrish said in a statement to the publication: "Music has always been and remains The GreenRoom's core focus, so we had to make the difficult decision after 17 years to step away from representing Jason."
"We aren't the best people for the gig anymore, but will always be big fans of his music — he is one of the greatest live entertainers in country music," Parrish, who co-owns the company with Kristie Sloan, went on to say.
Other high-profile country music clients of the the GreenRoom include Dierks Bentley, Rascal Flatts, Thomas Rhett, Lady A and Brett Young.
Though Parrish did not explicitly state why the firm was dropping the 'If I Didn't Love You' singer as a client, the news comes just a week after his wife Brittany posted an Instagram video that sparked backlash for spouting anti-trans views.
On August 23, Brittany shared a "before and after" makeup video, in which she thanked her parents for "not changing my gender."
"I’d really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase," she wrote in the caption. "I love this girly life."
Aldean commented under his wife's post, writing alongside a laughing emoji: "Lmao!! Im glad they didn’t too, cause you and I wouldn’t have worked out."
Other more left-leaning country stars have since called Brittany out for her inflammatory comments.
“You'd think celebs with beauty brands would see the positives in including LGBTQ+ people in their messaging, '' Cassadee Pope wrote on Twitter. "But instead here we are, hearing someone compare their 'tomboy phase' to someone wanting to transition. Real nice."
Maren Morris tweeted: "It’s so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie."
Addressing the backlash, Brittany claimed in an August 26 Instagram story that her comments were rooted in "love."
"The genital mutilation of children under the disguise of love and calling it ‘gender-affirming care' is one of the worst evils," Brittany wrote, later adding: "Love is protecting your child until they are mature enough as an adult to make their own life decisions."
Some days later, on August 31, Brittany unveiled her new "Barbie-inspired" merch that reads "Don’t Tread on Our Kids."
"Per usual, my words have been taken out of context over the last week. Instead of getting twisted about the twisting of my words, I've chosen to bring some good out of it," she wrote.
