The trailer for the second Joker has dropped and it looks incredible!

For those of you who were involved in the hype surrounding the first Joker movie, this new installment is probably causing a great deal of excitement.

The Joker is many people's favorite villain and it's easy to see why... He doesn't really have a motive for what he does beyond hating the world he lives in.

That being said, Joaquin Phoenix's portrayal gave us a real and gritty look at the character, showing Arthur Fleck, a man battling mental health issues, and being downtrodden while trying to live in Gotham.

Without spoiling too much, the tense movie came to an explosive conclusion and many were left wondering whether we'd get to see Phoenix reprise the role that won him an Oscar in 2020.

It turns out that yes we will, and he'll be joined by Lady Gaga playing Harley Quinn.

In the trailer, set against the backdrop of a haunting rendition of 'What the World Needs Now (Is Love Sweet Love),' Phoenix's Joker takes center stage but his eye is quickly caught by Harley Quinn.

Directed and co-written by Todd Phillips, the sequel promises to be a dramatic story with musical flourishes set in the world of Arkham Asylum.

As per Deadline, Phillips expressed his gratitude to exhibitors for their unwavering support, reflecting on the tumultuous events of the past years.

"It’s been five years since I was here last. Did I miss anything? Just a global pandemic, dual strikes, an economic downturn… I’m sure it didn’t affect any of you," he said, acknowledging the challenges faced by the industry.

Speaking about the sequel, Phillips revealed: "When we were making the first movie Joaquin and I always talked about making a sequel... Then when Joker became a huge success we talked about it during the pandemic and decided to do it and we had a blast doing it."

He also praised Lady Gaga's addition to the cast, describing her as "magic" and emphasizing the importance of music in the film.

It's safe to say that Gaga's involvement in the movie has gone down very well with fans, as people flocked to social media to heap praise on the star.

One person said: "Whoever thought of casting Lady Gaga in a psychological thriller x musical was a f***ing genius! Joker 2 is literally the movie she was born to star in. Every step in the trajectory of her career has led to this moment."

A second added: "[It] still hasn’t hit me that joker was one of my fav movies of the last decade and gaga is a co-lead in this sequel, this role will be career-defining for her."

A third person tweeted: "No but the visuals are literally INSANE, the oscar is in lady gaga’s bag already."

Joker Folie à Deux will be set against a musical backdrop and will hit theaters on October 4, 2024.
