Following his death, Deborah has spoken out about the love and admiration she had for her late husband.

"The grief I feel over the loss of my husband is gut-wrenching. I was lying close to Michael when he took his last breath and my sadness is beyond words," she told People Magazine.

"I've always called him by his given name because I didn't see him as 'Meat.' I feel much gratitude for the outpouring of love I have received from around the world."

"He meant so much to so many people, and it gave me joy to be able to share him with the world. As his wife, I also want everyone to know how much he meant to me as a husband," she added.

Aday fondly described her love story with the musician, saying: "For me, it was always about him. From the day we met, he was my world and I loved him. There wasn't a day that went by that we didn't tell the other how much we loved them. Not a day that we didn't hug each other."

The couple tied the knot in 2007 and were married for almost 15 years at the time of Meat Loaf's death.

"Some of my fondest memories will always be about how we so often laughed, and how we brought out the silliness and playfulness in each other," she said. "Michael was a hugger–such a physically affectionate and kind man, and I'm grateful that he brought out those traits in me."

Meat Loaf's family announced his death in a statement on social media, which read: "Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight surrounded by his wife Deborah, daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends."

The statement continued: "His amazing career spanned 6 decades that saw him sell over 100 Million albums worldwide and star in over 65 movies, including 'Fight Club', 'Focus', 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' and 'Wayne’s World'.

"'Bat Out of Hell' remains one of the top 10 selling albums of all time."

The post continued: "We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man.

"We thank you for your understanding of our need for privacy at this time. From his heart to your souls…don’t ever stop rocking!"
