If I were to say the name 'Mia Khalifa', I'm guessing a few very specific things would come to your mind. Namely, porn, controversy and scandal.

The former adult film actress became infamous back in the early 2010s, becoming the most-searched-for star on Pornhub in her heyday. However, her popularity soon came at a price when in 2014 the Lebanese-American star decided to film some of her videos wearing a hijab and was targeted by ISIS.

Recently Mia - who has now quit the porn business and re-imagined herself as a sports presenter - opened up about her terrifying experience, revealing that she still receives regular death threats four years later.

The 25-year-old revealed to the Daily Star Online that she still can't visit "certain places alone" due to the "sick" messages she gets daily. "They (death threats) happened about four years ago. I still get them on a daily basis, just not from organised terrorists and organisations," she told the online newspaper.

Admitting that stardom had completely changed her life - and not necessarily for the best - Mia continued: "I was not expecting it but I'm not going to completely discredit that I'm social media savvy. So it's taken work and it's definitely left me opportunities, my social media rise. Fame was not really my intention or my goal, success was. And if that's a by-product then I guess that's the price I have to pay. I had to change a lot of things about my life."

She added: "I can't go certain places alone, I can't go to certain places at night, I have to be careful about places, it's definitely changed my life. It didn’t validate me. Nothing like that ever does. That’s not what you should be doing to try and build your self-esteem.”

Back in February, the former adult movie star admitted that doing porn was a "huge" mistake, revealing that her life spiralled out of control when ISIS threatened her. "It all started to spiral out of control when the death threats from ISIS started coming in," she said. "That’s when I stepped away. As soon as I started to gain popularity that’s when I was like 'get the f*** out of this' This was not what I was trying to do whatsoever. “I just wanted to let loose and rebel a little bit."

ISIS - and many other people in her home country of Lebanon - took issue with a scene from one of her videos showing her having sex while wearing a hijab, part of traditional female Muslim dress. The terrorist organisation reportedly shared a manipulated image of her about to be beheaded by an ISIS executioner with a message warning she would go to Hell.

At the time Mia - who was raised Catholic - replied "I’ve been meaning to get a little tan recently," claiming that her critics should focus on more important events in the region.

In other Mia Khalifa news, the former adult film actress was recently hit by a six-ounce hockey puck travelling at 80mph that ruptured her left breast implant.
