Mira Sorvino has voiced her devastation after her father, Paul Sorvino, was not included in the In Memoriam segment at the 2023 Academy awards.

On Sunday night (March 12), the 95th Oscars showcased their annual segment dedicated to people in the film industry that have passed away.

However, this year they left out notable celebrities who died in the past year, such as Six Days Seven Nights actress Anne Heche, the Triangle of Sadness star Charlbi Dean, as well as the iconic Goodfellas star.

The 55-year-old Academy award-winning actress took to her social media to blast the Oscars and express her "hurt" at her father not being included in the ceremony.

Ahead of the prestigious ceremony, the actress shared a clip of her father’s emotional reaction to her win, for her performance in the 1995 film Mighty Aphrodite.

Captioning the video, Mira wrote: "On this Oscars night I am so happy for all of the nominees and the winners, but I am also moved in a thousand different ways when I think of the night I got to share my Academy Award with my Dad, the very great actor Paul Sorvino, who was never nominated.

"To get to share this blindingly positive moment with my father… My first and best teacher, my beloved Daddy who came to all the school plays and loved from the bottom of his heart," she continued.

"The brilliant thespian whom all his colleagues revered as one of the greatest, to get to give back to him what he had been giving me all my life - love and belief and admiration and gratitude," she said, adding, "On this first year after his passing it is truly a bittersweet but beautiful memory. I love you Dad, I miss you so much."

However, the Romy and Michele's High School Reunion star later edited the caption after finding out that her father didn't make it into the show's annual section, along with "several other incredible artists".

"Incredibly hurt and shocked that my father’s lifelong, irreplaceable, enormous contribution to the world of cinema was overlooked by [whoever] made that list," she wrote.

"We his adoring family, and you, his adoring public, know just how unique and incredible he was. We hope [the Academy] does something to put this right," she added.

Later, she shared a USA Today article on Twitter about her father’s snub, writing: "It is baffling beyond belief that my beloved father and many other amazing brilliant departed actors were left out. The Oscars forgot about Paul Sorvino, but the rest of us never will!!"

Sorvino - who is most famous for his role as gangster Paulie Cicero in Martin Scorsese's classic mob movie - passed away aged 83 on July 25, 2022.

The actor worked in the industry for more than 50 years and was also known for portraying police sergeant Phil Cerreta on the TV series Law and Order, Fulgencio Capulet in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, and Henry Kissinger in Oliver Stone’s Nixon.

According to BBC News, his publicist, Roger Neal, disclosed that the actor passed away from natural causes at his home in Indiana.

His widow Dee Dee Benkie also shared her disappointment with the Oscars overlooking him and penned: "Paul Sorvino was one of the greatest actors in cinematic history in Hollywood. It is unconscionable that he would be left out of the In Memoriam segment of the Oscars," per People.

"It's a three-hour show, they can't give a couple more minutes to get it right? Paul Sorvino gave decades to this industry and was loved by all," she added.
