Olivia Wilde has been branded "embarrassing" for wearing a white wedding dress to a wedding.
By now, most of us know that wearing white to such an event is a major faux pas... But Wilde seemed to have missed the memo!
The 39-year-old actress has largely kept out of the spotlight following the drama-filled lead-up to the release of her 2022 movie Don't Worry Darling, and after her nearly two-year relationship with musician Harry Styles came to an abrupt end.
However, now it seems the mother-of-two - who shares her children with her ex, Jason Sudeikis - is garnering attention for a whole other reason.
Earlier this month, Wilde was snapped wearing a stunning white and gold dress at this year's Met Gala, however, Vogue China's Editor-In-Chief Margaret Zhang also turned up wearing the same thing. Now, Wilde is catching some drama for another clothing choice, having chosen to wear a white wedding dress to a recent ceremony for her friends.
Last weekend, the Booksmart director attended the nuptials of her friends Colton Underwood and Jordan C. Brown wearing, by her own admission, a white "wedding dress." According to her, the wedding dress was all part of a joke she was set to make during her toast at the newlyweds' wedding reception later in the day.
Taking to her Instagram story, Wilde posted an image of herself in the delicate silk Nili Lotan number, writing: "Wore a wedding dress to a wedding just so I could make a joke about it in my toast."
Wilde then also shared a short clip of herself embracing the two grooms, adding that they both had approved of her white dress. In fact, one of them took to his Instagram story to post a sweet image of Wilde all-smiles at the nuptials, calling her their "best friend" and explaining that the white dress made the toast funnier.
Given the absence of a bride, perhaps it wasn't so much of a faux pas after all... Or, perhaps not - as the internet still wasn't convinced it was the best idea.
"She's so embarrassing I-" one person wrote on Twitter.
"Olivia Wilde is just a messy b***h I see. I don't think it's cute to wear an actual wedding dress to someone else's wedding just to make a toast about it. The more I learn about her the less I like her," another person savagely added.
Though, others could see the humor in the situation and defended Wilde, with another user commenting: "I can't believe the groom had to speak out, to defend Olivia because once again people were being disgusting…This man and his husband were not offended at all that she wore a wedding dress, they found it funny !! Olivia is their friend ! LEAVE THIS WOMAN ALONE !"
Another person chimed in with: "Olivia Wilde is that close to her friend that she gave a speech at his wedding and people think they know how they would feel about the dress better than her??? Stop projecting your own insecurities. they loved it. your opinion is literally irrelevant."
