Disney Pixar's Lightyear is set to revive one of the animation studio's most beloved characters - Toy Story's Buzz Lightyear.
However, not everyone is so excited to see Buzz back on screen.
Sitcom star Patricia Heaton has taken to Twitter to bash the studio for bringing back the iconic space ranger - but not recasting original voice actor Tim Allen.
Allen - who voiced the character's legendary catchphrase "to infinity and beyond" in the Toy Story films - has been replaced by Marvel star Chris Evans in the animated flick.
Heaton complained that subbing out Allen would ruin the character so much that it would physically "castrate" him.
"Saw the trailer for Buzz Lightyear and all I can say is Disney/Pixar made a HUGE mistake in not casting my pal @ofctimallen Tim Allen in the role that he originated, the role that he owns. Tim IS Buzz!" the Malcolm in the Middle star tweeted.
"Why would they completely castrate this iconic, beloved character?" she added.
Lightyear producer Galyn Susman has previously explained the studio's decision to replace Allen with Evans in the movie, which explores Buzz's origins as a young space ranger.
"Tim really is the embodiment of the toy Buzz, and this isn’t the toy world, so it really doesn’t make sense. There’s not really a role," Susman told The Hollywood Reporter. "It would just cause more confusion for audiences instead of helping them understand the movie we’re trying to tell," she added.
Susman isn't the only person to have pointed out that the Buzz Lightyear in Lightyear is a human version of the Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story. Evans himself explained the distinction in an interview with USA Today. "The truth is this character is in fact the human version of that toy," he told the outlet.
However, that's not to say that their voices shouldn't be a little similar. "There does need to be overlap in terms of their cadence and nature," Evans continued, adding: "The reason we’re doing this movie is because Tim Allen made such an iconic impact."
Lightyear hit theaters on June 17.
