Britney Spears fans appear to have worked out who her hit song 'Toxic' is about... and it's safe to say nobody saw this one coming.
The hit song was released in 2004 and its accompanying music video soon became one of the most recognizable of all time.
In it, Britney embraces her inner air hostess as she shimmies down the aisle of a plane before seducing a passenger and stealing his wallet, soon changing into another of her alter-egos in a series of wigs.
And while the iconic track has been in our consciousness for almost 20 years, fans are only just finding out who the song was actually written about.
Fans have been doing some digging into who the subject matter of 'Toxic' could be - and it turns out it's pretty likely to be about British TV star Dr Noel Fitzpatrick, better known as the Supervet.
They discovered that Noel, 55, was dating Cathy Dennis, who co-wrote 'Toxic', and the couple split around the time the song was written.
The news was shared by Pop B***h, who wrote: "The man who inspired the Britney Spears track Toxic was someone that the song’s co-writer Cathy Dennis had been dating in the early 2000s, who broke up with her in 2003: Noel Fitzpatrick.
"It’s unlikely you’d have known who he was at the time (unless you had a sick spaniel) but he’s better known to most people nowadays as Channel 4’s Supervet!"
Noel and Cathy reportedly met when she brought her Labrador, named Charlie, to his veterinary surgery for treatment.
The song was written around the time the pair eventually split, and was originally offered to Kylie Minogue - who turned it down - before it was recorded by Britney.
Noel previously addressed the claims on This Morning, when he was asked whether the track was indeed inspired by him.
He joked at the time: "You may have to ask Kylie Minogue whether 'I Can't Get You Out Of My Head' is written about me."
Fans were - of course - stunned that 'Toxic' might indeed be about the mild-mannered TV vet, and took to Twitter to share their shock.
One wrote: "shut. up. calling in sick tomorrow so I can process this", while another added: "Going for a lie down because my head can’t handle that Britney Spears - Toxic is about the supervet??"
Others commented: "I’ve just found out the Britney song Toxic was written about ‘Supervet’ Noel Fitzpatrick & it’s absolutely blown my mind" and "I can’t cope. Britney Spears ‘Toxic’ is about the supervet?".
One fan also joked: "toxic by britney spears being inspired by the writer’s breakup with noel fitzpatrick the supervet has changed the trajectory of everything for me."
When he's not inspiring global hit songs, Noel spends his time at his veterinary practise in Surrey, which was the inspiration for the TV series The Supervet as well as The Bionic Vet, due to his specialist in neurosurgery, oncology, and orthopedics.
Consider our minds officially blown by this news.
