Steve-O has shared a heartbreaking message to Jackass co-star Bam Margera, urging him to get help following a recent online outburst.

Bam, 43, had taken to Instagram to share a throwback photo of himself with Steve-O, 48, and Johnny Knoxville, 51, in which he hit out at the latter in the caption.

He told his followers: "One arm is a best friend who had my f**king back all along, another arm is a poser. A pro creation thief.

"If Jeff Tremaine was in this photo, he would be [too] greedy to fit. F**k jeff. Remember I tattooed that on me long ago jeff? It's because I knew who you were all along. @steveo much love and respect."

Bam had fallen out with Knoxville last year, suing him and Paramount over wrongful termination from the movie Jackass Forever.

Steve-O responded to Bam in the comments, encouraging him to focus on his recovery and spending time with his family rather than sending vitriol to his former friend and co-star online.

The entertainer reportedly wrote: "Bam, last night you had your five year old son with you on stage at my show, and you were blessed with the chance to spend another day or two with him - then as soon as you left my show, you stayed up all night getting loaded enough to think it was a good idea to post more vile nonsense like this.

"I hope you understand how awful that is. You say you want to have a relationship with your son, but your actions guarantee the exact opposite will happen."

He added: "I brought you on tour with me in hopes that I could get you to see what's possible for you if you choose recovery.

"I've tried everything I can, but I can't force you to get honest and do the work of recovery. I wish you could know how much I've hated feeling braced for news of your death, but you're making it clear that I have no other choice.

"You're dying, brother, and it sucks that I can't do anything to save you."

Johnny, for his part, doesn't appear to have hard feelings against Bam, telling Variety in October: "I haven't spoken to Bam in about a year and a half, give or take six months.

"[Jackass director] Jeff Tremaine, Steve-O, and I had a face-to-face meeting with Bam and his wife, trying to figure out how to get him help. Then we had a Zoom as a group not long after that, and that was the last time I talked to him."

He added: "It boils down to: I love Bam. I know that a lot has happened. I just want him to get well for himself and his family. I love the guy, and I want him to get well and stay well."

Bam - real name Brandon Cole Margera - has been in rehab multiple times for substance abuse, but left a court-ordered treatment facility in early September, as well as disappearing from the facility twice over the summer.

The TV star has been open about his struggles with addiction in the past, previously revealing that he had become dependent on Adderall and painkillers due to his death-defying stunts.

Last May, he marked "one year of treatment" for drug and alcohol dependence at a facility in Boca Raton, and was planning to attend outpatient sessions for the following two months.

However, he went missing in June and was found days later in a hotel by a crisis intervention team and Sheriff's deputies, claiming he had left the facility as he feared he would be kept away from his four-year-old son, Phoenix Wolf.

Bam also ended up in hospital in December after a serious case of pneumonia was complicated by also contracting Covid-19, leaving him in intensive care on a ventilator.

He revealed just how dire the situation got on Steve-O's Wild Ride! podcast, explaining: "I basically was pronounced dead on Elvis' birthday - December 8th - I did not know that I had like gnarly Covid, my body was shutting down and I went into four seizures."

Bam added: "I bit my tongue so hard it was like nearly falling off, it got so swollen and puffy it wouldn't fit in my mouth. I was drinking the infected blood which gave me pneumonia as well."
