The 1975 lead singer Matt Healy has left fans divided after appearing to check a woman's age on her ID before kissing her at a concert.

The 33-year-old musician has gone viral on social media after a video emerged of him locking lips with a fan during a concert in Las Vegas.

Healy first spotted the fan in the crowd holding a homemade sign asking him to be her "first kiss". He then seemingly checked the woman's ID and bit down on the laminated card to make sure that it was real.

After the ID passed his checks, Healy jumped off the stage and lunged at the red-haired woman. He then asked her: "Are you ready? Are you ready for your first kiss?" before grabbing her face, and kissing her.

A fan posted a video of the moment on Twitter with the caption: "Imagine being able to say your first kiss was Matty Healy," and it amassed 12.8K likes.

However, not everyone was delighted with the moment. While some were thrilled for the fan, others said they were uncomfortable with the whole ordeal.

One user exclaimed: "THE ID CHECK? LOCK HIM UP."

Another said: "I really don’t want to see Matty Healy kissing someone almost half his age again. It’s so gross, especially seeing the fans wishing it was them. It’s such a gross misuse of power because if he wasn’t famous they’d only be showing him their ID to buy a red bull in Tesco."

A third commented: "The video of Matty Healy checking someone's ID before he kisses them is so mad."

A fourth wrote: "The Matty Healy kissing women in the crowd thing — even with the ID check — is… odd. The power dynamic is extremely unbalanced and it doesn’t bode well for situations when there’s no cameras around."

Meanwhile, some people lauded the singer for ensuring the girl was the age she said she was, adding that they don't see anything wrong with the video. One person wrote: "I don’t understand what’s wrong with Matty Healy checking a girl's id before kissing her is that not the right thing to do…"

Another said: "why are ppl mad at Matty Healy for checking someone’s ID before kissing them during a show…. like would you rather he kiss a minor without asking or what."

A third commented: "The Matty Healy or whatever kiss thing is absolutely f***ing cringe and unsettling to watch, BUT him checking the person’s ID is absolutely not the bad part. yall are just [weirdos]."

Mid-performance kisses aren't new for Healy. In 2014, he kissed a male fan during a concert performance in Dubai to protest the country's anti-LGBTQ laws, according to Paper Magazine.
