Rainn Wilson, best known for his role as Dwight Schrute on the hit sitcom The Office, has shared a touching handwritten note that was slipped to him by an air stewardess.
Now, The Office - like many of the best sitcoms of all time - is known for providing its viewers with nine seasons of laughs. And although, for many viewers, a TV show is simply 21 minutes of giggles - for others, TV can be so much more.
Ever Wilson, who had an incredible encounter with a fan during a recent flight.
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), the 58-year-old showed fans a sweet message he was given by a flight attendant who dropped a napkin on his lap without him knowing.
"The Office got me through some of the darkest days of my life," it read. "I can’t thank you enough for that."
The piece was signed off with a name - "Melanie."
"I didn’t even see who dropped this on my lap at the PDX airport but I greatly appreciate the sentiment, flight attendant Melanie of Alaska Airlines," Wilson wrote in the caption alongside the image. "So humbled to be a part of a show that affected, touched, comforted, and inspired. And continues to do so! It’s so f****** rare."
The star went on to thank everyone who worked on the hit show, as well as the fans who supported them through it.
"A continuous Thank you to the whole Office family, cast, writers, crew and especially AUDIENCE! (Note: this is not an open invitation to give me notes on napkins!)," he added.
Since it was posted, the picture has been seen a whopping 6.5 million times and has gained over 89,000 likes with hundreds of comments from other thankful fans.
"This show gives me the best warm feeling ever. Unbeatable. Made a little tribute in MS Paint. Hope you like it," wrote one user while another added: "Co-signing. The Office got me and my family through the 2020 pandemic lockdown. And you’re TOTALLY going to get more notes on napkins now."
A third social media user also chimed in with: "We love watching The Office as a family. When I travel for work, and miss my family, watching The Office brings a weird but beautiful peace. Hard to explain."
Despite bringing happiness to so many people, it was shocking to find out that Rainn was actually unhappy for a lot of the seasons of The Office.
Speaking to Bill Maher on an episode of the comedian’s 'Club Random' podcast last year, the actor revealed that the lack of development in his career had him questioning a lot of things.
After stating he was "unhappy" "because [the role] wasn’t enough," he went on to explain that it was his own fault that he felt like that.
"I’m realizing now, like, I’m on a hit show, Emmy nominated every year, making lots of money, working with Steve Carell and Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski and these amazing writers and incredible directors like Paul Feig. I’m on one of the great TV shows. People love it. I wasn’t enjoying it," Wilson confessed.
He said he spent a lot of time wondering why he wasn’t a movie star, and would often ask himself: “'Why am I not the next Jack Black or the next Will Ferrell? How come I can’t have a movie career? Why don’t I have this development deal?'"
Although the 58-year-old was making hundreds of thousands of dollars, he wanted more.
"I was a TV star, but I wanted to be a movie star. It was never enough," he added. "Humans have lived for hundreds of thousands of years, and 'never enough' has helped us as a species."
However, he seems extremely appreciative of the legacy he's got with his role in The Office.
