A flight attendant has been praised by social media users after he went above and beyond for one passenger who felt nervous during a flight.

During a Delta flight from Charlotte Douglas International airport in North Carolina to JFK Airport in New York, a flight attendant - now identified as Floyd Dean-Shannon - was photographed sitting in the aisle of the aircraft holding a woman's hand as she was feeling uneasy during the flight.

The moment was snapped by a fellow passenger on the January 2023 flight, before being shared across multiple social media platforms.

On X, user @BrotherManBlack1 posted the image alongside the caption: "Check out this gem of a flight attendant that was on our flight from CLT to JFK."

The post continued: "This woman was so nervous about flying, so he explained every sound and bump and even sat here holding her hand when it still got to be too much for her. @delta Floyd Dean-Shannon deserves a raise!"

Over on Facebook and Instagram, digital content creator 'A Fly Guy' also reposted the image, saying it made him feel "proud."

"This makes me so proud," he wrote in the caption. "Notice he's holding her hand. Job well done Floyd Dean-Shannon and thank you to Molly Lee for capturing this great moment!"

Comments commending the selfless attendant poured in under all the respective posts, with many social media users pointing out just how skilled and calm he seemed to be despite the situation at hand.

"Also notice how he is holding her hand, palm to palm - this is a calming technique that I used to use with my mother who had dementia," wrote one Facebook user. "It provides a comforting and calming human connection using a familiar grasp and proprioceptive (deep pressure) in the palm at the base of the thumb."

Another recalled her own experiences with flying: "This warms my heart. My first time on a plane was JFK to London with Delta when I was 17. I was so nervous that the pilots let me in the cockpit before take off and explained everything to me and made me feel safe.

"I’ve always had great experiences on Delta," they added.

A third also emphasized that Dean-Shannon does deserve that raise: "He totally deserves a raise! I’m someone with flight anxiety and that is a gold star employee right there."

Over on X, there was also an overwhelmingly positive response.

"It is always touching to see one human caring for another," wrote one user while another: "I need Floyd on my next flight!"

"Rare to see such dedicated service these days; well done," praised someone else.

According to BrightVibes.com, if you have a fear of flying, the best way to combat it is to follow one or more of these three simple techniques.

The first is to distract yourself by reading or listening to music, the second is to practice deep breathing during the moments that make you feel the most anxious and the third and final one is to speak to someone, ie. a flight attendant.

You never know, you might even get the Dean-Shannon treatment!
