A UK channel has been heavily criticized for broadcasting an explicit TV show that filmed contestants taking part in a group sex session.

The controversial show in question is called Open House: The Great Sex Experiment and it involves a host of couples staying in a luxury retreat to test whether opening up their relationship to other parties can strengthen their relationship.

At the retreat, every contestant is assigned tasks to complete to push the committed participants toward having sexual intercourse with someone other than their partner.

The couples are also expected to consult with a psychologist to find out whether they are prepared to try an open connection as they meet other single people.

The reality TV series - which is currently in its second season - aired its most X-rated episode yet on Thursday (May 25) which involved one couple named Chanice and Richardo hosting an after-party that resulted in a group of 15 people having an orgy.

"We just invited everyone at the party to the after-party. There are so many experienced people. It’s just like…take us in," Richardo said, according to The New York Post.

However, many viewers were left stunned and took to social media to blast Channel 4 for airing the shocking sex act. One outraged user wrote: "What mad is these people have kids ....and their kids are gonna see this."

Another equally horrified person said: "Film on Sky finished and tv pinged onto #OpenHouse what fresh hell is this?!? I can’t believe this is on normal TV."

A third commented: "I hope someone comes in and gives that room a deep clean before anyone else sleeps in there #OpenHouse," and a fourth said: "Channel 4 Open House is pure madness. These couples are hurtling towards disaster."

Meanwhile, one viewer that was clearly invested in the show penned: "15-person orgy. Will Ricardo be the one sitting in the corner by himself?"

This is not the first time Channel 4 has sparked controversy over its programs. Last month, viewers were left divided after a show called Naked Education aired its first episode which featured adults baring themselves in front of a group of 14- to 16-year-olds.

Presented by Anna Richardson, the series aims to teach people about body positivity but instead became a hotly debated topic on social media after the specific segment.

According to The Independent, Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway weighed in on the controversy by saying: "There’s something about the physicality of a stranger being naked in front of a teenager which I just feel uncomfortable about, because of all the things that we read about."

In addition to this, Ofcom - the government-approved regulatory and competition authority - revealed that they received a total of 1,297 complaints about the series on April 4. As you can guess, the criticisms were about the participants in the program being minors in the presence of naked adults.
