A TV presenter has slammed Robert De Niro for having a child at the age of 79 as she urged him to get a vasectomy.
As previously reported, the Taxi Driver star opened up about his latest addition to the family in an interview with ET Canada as he was promoting his new movie, About My Father.
During the chat where he discussed the upcoming picture, the 79-year-old dropped the news that he had become a new father.
After the journalist conducting the interview asked De Niro about his six kids, the actor quickly interrupted: "Seven actually. I just had a baby."
The actor didn't give any more details on his new arrival, but a representative of his did confirm to the outlet that what he said was true.
It would appear that some people are pretty shocked at a 79-year-old having a baby, including Channel 9 personality Shelly Horton.
Writing for 9Honey, the presenter slammed the actor for having a child at his age, indicating that he will probably die before the baby reaches adulthood.
Horton penned: "It's irresponsible to have children at that age, especially when you consider the child will undoubtedly grow up without a father for most of their life."
She continued: "While some may argue women shouldn't have to sacrifice their desire to have children because their partner is older, they need to think about the long-term consequences of that decision.
"As parents age, they may also struggle with health issues that make it difficult for them to provide the care and attention young children require."
Horton expressed her concerns about the mother of the infant becoming a single mother, and although De Niro will undoubtedly be able to provide for the family financially, his passing could take an emotional toll.
The presenter then offered a piece of advice to the legendary actor, as she wrote: "I have an idea for a Father's Day present - a vasectomy."
Following the reveal of his baby, De Niro shared the name of the new arrival with CBS Mornings' host Gayle King, along with the name of his partner.
His seventh child is named Gia Virginia Chen-De Niro, who he - along with his partner Tiffany Chen - said was a planned arrival and that they are both "over the moon".
Following the news, actress Kim Cattrall congratulated the actor and his "significant other" at the New York premiere of their film About My Father.
She told Extra: "God bless him, his significant other. Tiffany is such a beautiful woman. She came to the set once with her family and watched filming, and she was gorgeous and sweet. I'm happy for both of them."
We wish De Niro and his family all the best moving forward!
