Robert De Niro has revealed that he recently welcomed his seventh child at the age of 79.
The Meet the Parents star shared the news in an interview to promote his new movie, About My Father.
In a discussion with ET Canada about fatherhood, the veteran actor said that he believes "in being loving with [his] kids", though one also has "to be stern about stuff."
He said: "I mean, there’s no way around it with kids. I don’t like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But, [sometimes] you just have no choice.
‘And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can’t."
An ET Canada journalist then mentioned that De Niro had six kids, before the actor promptly corrected him, saying: "Seven actually."
"I just had a baby," he added.
He did not reveal any further details about the latest addition to the family - including who the mother of the child is. However, De Niro's rep confirmed to the outlet that the actor had in fact welcomed another little one.
After his separation from his wife Grace Hightower in 2018, he was most recently pictured with martial arts instructor Tiffany Chen.
They were seen together leaving dinner with Harvey Keitel and Billy Crystal at Giorgio Baldi's private room in Santa Monica in March. At the time, Chen appeared to have a baby bump.
De Niro, who is also a grandfather, told People in January 2020 that parents should always aim to push their kids to strive for what they want in life.
"For my kids, I tell them, 'If you want to be an actor or you want to do this or that, that's fine as long as you're happy. Just don't sell yourself short,' " he said. "That's the most I would say — push yourself a little more and reach for what you really think it is you want to do. Don't be afraid."
The actor added: "It's important for them to find their own lane."
De Niro has two kids - Drena, 51, and Raphael, 46 - with his ex wife Diahnne Abbott and two children with Hightower - Elliot, 25, and Helen, 11. He is a father to twins Aaron and Julian, 27, with former partner Toukie Smith. The name of his youngest child is yet to be revealed.
