A restaurant owner had an amusing reply to a disappointed customer who had given their restaurant a one-star review, explaining what really happened that night. Last weekend, a woman only described as Chloe A, took to review website TripAdvisor to express her displeasure after a restaurant visit gone wrong.
Titling her one-star review "Unreasonable", Chloe said in her review that the hostility towards her party at an eatery known as the Hobgoblin was apparent from the beginning. She claimed that the group was branded as "too drunk", but argues that they were sober upon entering the restaurant.
"The staff good a disliking to use [sic] the second we walked in. We are a group of 5 who haven’t seen us since uni. They told us we were too drunk despite not having any alcohol before entering the establishmst [sic]. This pub clearly has an issue with happy people."

In response to Chloe's review, however, the owner of the Hobgoblin, located in Bristol in the west of England, refuted Chloe's scathing appraisal. Instead, the owner - known only as James - responded with his own version of events that took place that evening.
"Hi Chloe, how's the head this morning?" James began in his reply, before proceeding to say what he remembered from the evening: "I'd be surprised if you can actually remember your behaviour last night so, just in case it's a little foggy, let's have a recap, shall we?"
"Although you were initially served a round of drinks, after you stumbled away from the bar and barged into another customer, dropping your drinks on the floor, we began to realise that you weren't *entirely* sober. This assessment was further strengthened when you returned to the bar, aggressively demanding that your spilt drinks be replaced for free. You were refused."

"In the cold light of this morning these were rather obviously the angry ravings of someone well in their cups," said James, asserting that Chloe then became aggressive, threatening staff and claiming to be a police officer, saying that she would come back with senior officers for allegedly infringing on her human rights.
"A number of other customers commented that your behaviour was inappropriate, and you reduced the member of bar staff to tears. Once we had discussed what had happened, we decided that frankly it would be best if you all moved on and we informed you that we wouldn't be serving you any further."
According to James, Chloe then doubled down on her threat to bring the Hobgoblin up on human rights violations, demanding the names of staff who had refused to serve her and claiming she would bring legal action against the workers, who James said had become visibly upset with Chloe's behaviour.

James finishes his reply by encouraging Chloe's threat of legal action. "I'm really not sure [James' response] paints you in a particularly flattering light either way and I am completely comfortable with how you were dealt with last night," he said in the response, and asks for an apology from the unhappy customer.
Chloe A had not responded to a request from Food Envy for comment at the time of publication.

The jealous girlfriend of a waiter has responded to a Yelp reviewer - simply because she left him a positive review.
Taking to TikTok, Antonia - the diner - explained that she and her friends had just left a restaurant in which their waiter had asked them to leave a review on Yelp and to mention his name, Ira.
Happily agreeing to the request, Antonia left a glowing review on the site, writing: "Love the atmosphere. Pretty good drinks, nice food menu. Ira? My king. Love you. Xoxo."
But just 20 minutes later, the unsuspecting TikToker received an angry message from none other than Ira's girlfriend, who was upset with Antonia's "inappropriate" review.
Check out Antonia's video below:The irate girlfriend wrote: "I saw your review for my boyfriend Ira and I don’t really appreciate what you said calling him your king etc. I felt like it was inappropriate and a comment about his services would have sufficed."
She added: "I don’t know if he gave you some kind of impression or was flirting etc. but I’d like to know. If not then if you don’t mind editing the review or writing a new one, that would be great."
In complete shock by the woman's exaggerated response to what was a pretty harmless review, Antonia responded: "Hahahahaha I wrote a review because they were all competing for the most reviews for the night. Nothing to worry about."
The girlfriend then went on to say that she wasn’t mad that Antonia had posted a review, but said: "It’s about how it was written and perceived". She added: "But if it’s nothing, I apologize and enjoy the rest of your night."
Commenting on the woman's bizarre behavior, the TikToker told her followers: "I didn’t want to be, like, you’re f***ing crazy, but imagine going on Yelp to look at your boyfriend’s restaurant, and messaging someone from a review within 20 minutes."
The video has since garnered hundreds of comments, with many deeming the girlfriend's behavior to be a "red flag".
One commenter shared: "I have never heard of someone monitoring Yelp reviews of their partner's workplace. Wow."
Another said: "She must have been typing 'Ira' and the restaurant name every 30 mins."
A third commented: "I hate that people feel that insecure. It's sad. Hugs to her. You never know someone's life/past/issues."
What do you think - has it been blown out of all proportion or do you think the girlfriend has a point? Let us know in the comments.

Although sometimes it feels like it's a plague on mankind that will eventually turn out to be the downfall of society, the internet has completely changed the way we interact with each other, acquire products or services, and complain about said products or services when things inevitably go awry.
Head to the bottom of any Amazon page, and you'll see a ton of reviews explaining what's good and bad about any product you might desire. if 78 people are saying that the nutcracker they bought is "only effective on eggs and soggy peanuts", then who are you and your coveted stash of walnuts to disagree?
Reviews are important - and not only so you know whether or not to buy tickets for the latest DC flick (you shouldn't). Leaving a one-star review at any place is a black mark against that particular establishment - one you should really pay attention to if you're thinking about offering them your patronage, but it's also hard to get a balanced view.
Imgur user ctrclub shares with us on the internet about one such time where that single star only told a part of the story, after a woman by the name of Monica left a one-star review about a restaurant, with a simple message: "The food was okay but the wait was terrible."
On the surface of it, seems fair enough, Monica. Nothing worse than a long wait time at a restaurant, right? But when the restaurant in question sees fit to respond, that's usually not a great sign. Even worse - when they see fit to response a full two months after the incident occurred, a surefire sign that they remember you quite well.
It's not clear which restaurant this is, but the response is quite a doozy. First off, Monica fails to mention that not only did she show up at the restaurant with 27 people, but she showed up a full 40 minutes before her reservation, demanding immediate seating and service regardless. But, ladies and gentlemen, things were only getting started.
The restaurant apparently did well in the face of such a crisis; seating Monica and her party (which included at least two other parents who are featured prominently in the riposte), allowing them the banquet room for no extra cost, getting all of the food out to them in a flat 35 minutes. Impressive, yes, but Monica and her party weren't having any of it.
"You and the two parents insisted on separate checks for the entire group, which when I took the reservation I advised in advance 'no separate checks' and explained that we did have an ATM on site if people needed it. Monica you and the two parents you whom you were seated with [sic] were extremely rude to myself, bartenders and our servers, telling one of them to 'shut up' and actually making another one of them cry."
From there, the response to the one-star review said that Monica didn't even leave a tip for the entire ordeal, but luckily other parents stepped up to the plate, apologising for Monica's behaviour that day. Just goes to show, really - one-star reviews should not be ignored, but they're as much a reflection of the reviewer as they are the thing being reviewed.

A restaurant owner has hit back at a two-star TripAdvisor review with a brutal takedown.
The reviewer, who went by the name Rob V, titled his review of the Sticky Walnut in Chester, England: "Excellent food let down by Ryanair style management" when he posted it to TripAdvisor last month.
Rob V started his two-star review with the "good news" that the food was "very, very tasty", but he then swiftly moved onto the "bad news."
He wrote: "The restaurant management doesn't give a toss about customer experience. I ate here on July 9 [and] had a complaint that was dealt with badly enough by the manager that I wrote to the owner.
"A restaurant that aspires to offer fine dining experience but has lost the ability to empathize with customers and ignores them when they complain? That really is a shame."
While a lot of restaurant owners chose to politely reply to negative reviews, apologizing, the owner of Elite Bistros, Gary Usher, decided to call this reviewer out on their alleged bad behavior.
He began his reply by pointing out that the reviewer in question had booked a table for one hour 45 minutes during a busy Friday night timeslot.
"After your dessert course the Manager, who you said 'doesn't give a toss', gently reminded you that we would need the table back shortly," he wrote. "You ignored the Manager and proceeded to order another round of drinks.
"Perhaps if your party had arrived on time for your reservation this could have been avoided. When the Manager came back a final time to politely let you know we needed to clear the table for our next guests you got up out of your seat, towering over the Manager, pointing in their face."
Gary continued by saying that the manager asked Rob V to "stop pointing in [their] face", but he went on "to tell the Manager that they didn't deserve to be a Manager and weren't qualified to be in the position."
"Your Mother then joined in by adding to the vitriol being directed towards the Manager. That's when both you and your Mother showed your true colors with the classic 'We've both worked in restaurants so we know how it works. We should be getting these drinks for free'."
The owner said that Rob V then "threatened the Manager by telling them that you would be contacting the owner because you know him."
He made a point of saying that he doesn't know Rob V.
"Every few months in a restaurant a rude guest will use the 'I know the owner!' line to try and intimidate team members and bully them into thinking that they will get into trouble because they didn't look after the owner's 'friends' well enough," he wrote.
Gary then revealed that he had also received an email from Rob V, and said "I did 'give a toss' but not about you Rob, but about the way you treated the team."
"So instead of replying to you we chose to block your number, and your Mom's, and put a note on our booking system to not accept any future bookings from you," he continued.
"With regards to the Manager who 'doesn't give a toss' they have managed Sticky Walnut for the last 8 years. Coincidentally the same length of time that Sticky Walnut has achieved a top 100 position in the National Restaurant Awards in the UK.
"I think that makes them both extremely deserving to be the Manager and absolutely qualified to hold that position."
The owner then concluded their scathing clapback by writing: "Not your mate, Gary."
According to TripAdvisor, Rob V has had an account on the reviewing website since 2010, but this is the first time that he has posted a review.
