On January 15,
Kim Kardashian and
Kanye West welcomed their third child, whom they had
through a surrogate. The baby girl is only four days old, but she's already said her first words: "F--k
Taylor Swift!" Actually, she hasn't spoken yet (as far as we know), but we have been anxiously waiting to learn her name.
Some parents pick "normal" names for their babies, for lack of a better word. It's a name that's been used a million times, but they love its meaning, or they're honoring someone close to them, or it just sounds nice. Other parents pick a more unusual name, which has the benefit of being unique, and might even be awesome, but it also
runs the risk of mockery. (For example, I once met a girl named "Wimberly," and thought it was hilarious. It still cracks me up. Sorry, Wimberly!)
Celebrities are notorious for giving their babies strange names.
Gwyneth Paltrow named her daughter Apple. (Cute?) Jason Lee named his son Pilot Inspektor. (What?) And Nicholas Cage named his son Kal-El. (Sweet! That's Superman's original name, when he was born on the planet Krypton! I mean, uh, what's that?)
And Kimye is no exception. For their first two children, they opted for some fairly unusual names. In 2013, they named their first child North, making her full name "North West." (Even Wimberly's got to laugh at that one.) In 2015, they named their second child Saint, making his full name "Saint West." (Hey, at least they didn't go with South.) What would they name their third child? Wild Wild? Sinner? Taylorsasnake? After four days of speculation, we finally have an answer.

Kimye announced that the name of their baby girl is (drumroll, please): Chicago. Well, I'm not sure how "Chicago West" sounds, but it seems appropriate. Although Yeezy was born in Atlanta, he was raised in Chitown, and represents the Windy City hard in his music, particularly in the song Homecoming. Kanye's also collaborated with iconic Chicago rappers like Common and Twista, producing the biggest hits of their careers. Currently he's working with another Chicago artist, Chance The Rapper, on his first major label solo album. Why not name your child after a city? Maybe he was inspired by
Paris Hilton.

On Twitter,
Khloe Kardashian raved about the baby girl's name, and offered some help on how to pronounce the short version, "Chi." (It's not a "ch" as in "chips." It's a "ch" as in "shy.")

As always, the unusual name led to some funny Tweets. One user found a food truck named "Chicago West" and said the name was already taken. Another user expressed disappointment they didn't go with "Wild." And another person claimed Kimye was inspired by Paris Hilton. (Although most parents probably wouldn't appreciate that comparison.)

Congrats, Kimye! North, Saint and Chicago are unusual names, but I think they're pretty cool. At least they didn't go with Wimberly.
