What’s better than a succulent roast turkey, surrounded by stuffing, sausages and sprouts? Obviously, if everything on the table has been dipped in batter before being dunked into a vat of boiling oil.
In an update to Christmas dinner that we never knew we needed until it was front-crawling through grease in front of us, a Mancunian chippy has taken all our festive favourites to the next level. With a new menu that proves tradition isn’t everything, The Chippy on Burton Road might be the ultimate place to overindulge on and around December 25th.
The restaurant, which has a habit of producing outrageous seasonal specials, announced its new menu line-up on Instagram, providing prospective customers with a brief rundown of what they will be able to sample. According to a caption on the account, fans can enjoy:
“Deep Fried Brie & Cranberry Parcels; Pig in a Duvet; Battered Stuffing Balls; Turkey & Stuffing Patty; Deep Fried Sprouts; Deep Fried Christmas Pudding; and Homemade Mulled Cider.”
In addition to the menu overview, The Chippy has also decided to take a deep dive into what’s on offer, providing anyone interested with lengthy, loving descriptions of the delicious, cardio-threatening options. Of the unorthodox “Pig in a Duvet”, for instance, the restaurant writes:
“Specially made just for us by @axonsof, our signature Smoked Sausage is lovingly wrapped in two rashes of Bacon, then tucked up in batter and deep fried. A substantial festive treat, served with Cranberry Sauce.”
Though its take on a Christmas dinner has certainly stolen the headlines, this isn’t the first time that The Chippy has dabbled in something a little bit different. For instance, just prior to the Christmas announcement, the restaurant had been serving a series of “Autumn Specials”, including “Mushy Pea Fritters” and “Deep Fried Gherkin”. It might be more unorthodox than battered cod and chips, but it certainly makes a statement.
