A company has created GPS in-soles so that people can keep track of their loved ones with dementia.

Now, writing as a former nursing home employee, this is an incredibly useful device. Unfortunately, those with dementia are prone to wander, which can make caring for them, especially in the home environment, extremely difficult.

Per the GPS SmartSole's website, the shoes haven't just been created for people with dementia and Alzheimer's, but those afflicted by other conditions including autism and developmental disabilities, whose locations may also need to be tracked by loved ones.

The company cited the 2013 World Alzheimer’s Report while promoting the GPS SmartSole, writing, "currently over 100 million people require oversight due to various forms of memory impairment. That number is expected to increase to 277 million by 2050."

It explained that of the people in this group, 60% of people will find themselves lost at least once, with 70% finding themselves lost three or more times, and horrifyingly, 46% will die if they are not found within 24 hours.
