A man has revealed the controversial decision he and his wife made to put their baby girl up for adoption just three months after she gave birth to the little one.
There are various reasons why people may choose to give their babies up for adoption. Some parents may not have the financial means to support a child. They might feel that adoption is the best option for ensuring their baby receives the care and resources they need.
Sometimes pregnancies occur unexpectedly, and the parents may not feel ready or capable of raising a child. In such cases, they may choose adoption as an alternative to parenting.
Individuals may also face personal challenges such as health issues, unstable housing situations, or lack of emotional support, which can make it difficult for them to raise a child. They may believe that adoption would provide a more stable and nurturing environment for their baby.
One new dad has taken to Reddit to explain his reasons for opting to give away the newborn he shares with his wife - and it hasn't gone down well online.
The anonymous husband explained that his wife, whom he referred to as Catherine, had no interest in their daughter Elizabeth. The new mom even went back to work just two weeks after she gave birth, according to the Redditor.
According to him, baby Elizabeth had made the couple's lives "miserable" as they are both "workaholics". He also shared that his wife's mother, who lives with them, had been doing the lion's share of the childcare.
Catherine would avoid going over to her own baby, even when she was crying.
When the child was three months old, the couple mutually decided to put her up for adoption.
“I can remember life without my daughter. I struggle to remember life without my wife,” the dad wrote.
“I love my daughter, don’t get me wrong, and adopting her out would be no easy feat. But keeping her could make my wife miserable – is, actually, making her miserable.”
He added: “What I want ultimately is whatever is best for Catherine and for Elizabeth, and I honestly think this may be the best option for everyone.”
Catherine’s mother decided to adopt the youngster so the child remains in the family, but internet users were still left astounded by the story.
One person remarked: “These people sound like robots, or aliens trying out human life. Who in their right mind creates a whole sentient life, does a few months of work to raise them, and then just says ‘eh it’s not for us’?”
Another said: “Basically treated the abandonment of their child as a transactional exchange between two parties.”
A third Reddit user stated that this story had made them grateful, they decided not to have any kids.
They wrote: “This is my worst fear about having children. But this is also why I never had any and use two forms of birth control at all times.”
“I was a planned child who was neglected and it still baffles me what my mother was thinking. The lack of guilt here is what’s getting me. I have shown more emotion than this saying goodbye to dogs I’ve fostered for a few days.”
