A family has been left shocked after tearing up an old carpet and discovering a giant Monopoly board.

Now, as anyone who has ever played a board game will attest, Monopoly is a classic, especially around the holidays, and it can provide any family with hours of (albeit angsty) fun.

The couple's son-in-law took to Reddit to explain how shocked his in-laws were when they tore up their old carpet only to discover a version of the property trading board game.

The picture was shared with the caption: "While tearing up their carpet, my in-laws found a giant monopoly board."

Needless to say, the post did not go unnoticed on the social media website, and at the time of writing, it has been upvoted over 120K times and received over 1K comments.

One Redditor then went on to explain that while having a giant board game in your home might seem odd in 2021, back in the 1950s, it was all the rage.

They wrote: "Showed this to my wife, and she reminded me that there's a whole neighborhood near us, built in the mid-50s, that has game boards painted or tiled onto their basement floors."

A second added: "My childhood home, which was built in the 60's [sic], had a shuffleboard game tiled into our basement floor. My parents were the first owners, but I don't know if it was an option from the builder or they did it on their own.

"I remember my mom often complaining that she wished she had gotten the laundry chute option, so I'm pretty sure they could select certain things from the builder."

Meanwhile, against the odds, a third Redditor wrote: "This is the second time I've seen a secret monopoly floor today - first was a Twitter post on 'things hidden in floors' and now this. Pretty sure we're all being f**ked with somehow."

A fourth then joked with a possibility that we can all agree with: "Better than [finding] a Ouija board."

So, what giant board game would you choose to have in your home?
