Dr Chris Bustamante, known in New York City as the ‘King of Penis Filler’, has outlined the symptoms of a common problem men face - Gym Penis.
No, really - that’s a thing, and the good doctor is here to explain the physiology behind it all.
In case you aren’t aware, Penis Filler is a cosmetic procedure that is available to men who aren’t exactly thrilled with the size of their manhood.
Obviously, there's no ideal size - we're all different - but it's a common concern.
Dr Bustamante specializes in helping out men who find themselves in this common predicament and provides both treatment and invaluable advice.
After all, you can only play the hand you were dealt, but you can increase the odds a bit.
Bustamante, the founder of Lustful Aesthetics in NYC, has spoken out on the increasing phenomenon of ‘Gym Penis’, a condition reported by many clients where their junk looks significantly smaller during or immediately after a workout.
Luckily, this is totally normal.
Dr Bustamante explained: "Gym dick is real in the sense that many men notice their penis temporarily looks smaller during or right after a workout.
"It is not true shrinkage of the penis. It is a temporary change in flaccid appearance.
"During exercise, your body prioritizes blood flow to the muscles, heart, lungs, and skin.”
There’s more to it, too.
The doctor continued: "At the same time, your 'fight or flight' system becomes more active.
"That can cause the penis and scrotum to retract or look tighter, especially during intense lifting, cardio, cold environments, or high-adrenaline workouts.
"The penis is very blood-flow dependent, so when the body is focused on performance rather than arousal, the flaccid penis can look smaller.”
So, if you are noticing some shrinkage at the gym - not the kind of gains you want - then fear not, it’s just a temporary thing and totally normal.
Dr Bustamante went on to explain that this phenomenon is actually very common, simply because it’s a very normal and safe thing for the body to be doing.
He explained: "Many men experience some degree of temporary retraction while working out, but the amount varies dramatically.
"Some barely notice it. Others may feel like they are turtling, where the penis retracts closer to the body.
"There is no standard measurement because flaccid penis size naturally changes throughout the day based on temperature, stress, hydration, blood flow, stimulation, and body position.
"For some men, it may be subtle; for others, the flaccid penis can appear significantly smaller during intense exercise. Importantly, flaccid size is not a reliable indicator of erect size.
“It is usually temporary.
"Once your body cools down, your nervous system settles, and blood flow redistributes, the penis typically returns to its usual flaccid appearance.
"For most men, that can happen within minutes to an hour after working out. It may take longer if you are cold, dehydrated, anxious, overstimulated from caffeine or pre-workout, or coming down from a very intense session.
"Some men naturally retract more than others, and that can make them feel self-conscious.”
Well, of course it could - but luckily, there are no negative side effects other than maybe a little feeling of self-consciousness.
If you are a regular gym-goer and lose a lot of weight - one significant instance of this is the musician Jelly Roll - you might notice that your manhood starts to look a bit bigger.
There are a few reasons behind this from a medical perspective, as Bustamante points out: “Weight loss can make the penis appear larger, especially if someone carries fat in the lower abdomen or pubic area.
"The actual penis is not growing, but more of the shaft may become visible as the suprapubic fat pad decreases.
"This is why some men feel like they 'gained length' after losing weight.
"What usually changes is visibility, not the anatomy itself.
"Improved cardiovascular health can also support better blood flow and erectile quality, which may improve how full or firm the penis appears when erect.”
Luckily, if you are struggling still with the size of your shaft, there are treatments such as the doctor’s own GirthFill, ScroFill - you can work that one out yourselves - as well as ShowTox and HangTox, that can give you a bit of extra… pep in your step.
But, if you are working out and noticing that you aren’t quite as large as you’d like, there’s a good scientific reason for it, and it’s totally normal and nothing to worry about.

A warning has been issued to men following the news of a groundbreaking new procedure that can result in a bigger penis.
A new filler treatment claims to increase penis size in just one short session, offering a quick fix for men looking to enhance their appearance below the belt.
But is it really worth the risk?
Forget abs and hair transplants — the latest frontier in male grooming focuses on girth.
A non-surgical treatment using hyaluronic acid, the same ingredient found in popular facial fillers, is now being used to add volume to the penis.
The process involves injecting the acid directly into the shaft to create a thicker, more uniform look.
According to Daily Mail, the method doesn't affect sensation or sexual performance, and there's no need for a hospital stay.

Chris Fleischer, practice manager at Cosmetic Connection, explained the process in a recent interview: "It's quite a simple procedure that enlarges the size of the penis.
It primarily focuses on the girth, but it's non-surgical - you can walk in and walk out the same day."
Each appointment takes around 20 minutes and is performed under local anesthetic, making it a relatively painless option.
However, results aren’t immediate in terms of use.
"You cannot use it the same day," Fleischer noted. "There's a recovery period of at least two weeks."

Fleischer did note some drawbacks, however, and this may deter men from undergoing the procedure.
"Sadly, the results don't last forever. 'It can last up to around three to five years," he explained.
"We usually recommend people come back every two years for a top-up."
Also, the procedure can cost anywhere between $5000 to $10,000 depending on how much filler is used.
Given the cost and the frequency of how often the filler would need to be applied, many men have probably been priced out.
There's also the worry that partners could get used to the enhanced size, and when the effects wear off, it could create tension in the bedroom.

Clinics offering the treatment report rising demand across a wide age range.
While some patients are in their 20s and 30s dealing with insecurity, others are older and experiencing age-related changes. Some men are even motivated by the desire to improve their partner’s experience.
"It's not one type of guy," Fleischer said. "You get young men who are insecure, older men who've experienced shrinkage, and even some who just want their partner to enjoy sex more after childbirth."
Though the treatment is designed primarily for increasing girth, slight improvements in length may occur, but that’s not its main focus.
"For the non-surgical option, length gains aren't possible," Fleischer added.
The most common question Fleischer hears is whether the enhancement is detectable.
"If it's done well, you can't tell," he said.
A new trend is adding weight to the argument that men are more concerned with their looks than we tend to think. With a prescribed norm provided by television, advertising, and glossy magazines, men are under more pressure than ever to look the part. However, the pursuit of perfection has reached strange new lows.
Penis fillers are being touted as the ideal way to increase your girth and put a curious spring in your step. However, while the backstreet Brazilian butt-lift was made infamous by rapper Cardi B, it also saw the tragic death of one young woman - highlighting that cosmetic procedures are often carried out illegally.
Furthermore, some medical experts are warning against penis fillers even when they are carried out by trained clinicians. But there's another reason why surrendering your member to a member of the medical profession might not be the best idea.
"All these augmentation procedures are mainly to increase your flaccid girth, and it will have no benefit on your erect length - so functionally it's not going to improve matters," explains expert Asif Muneer. Working for the British Association of Urological Surgeons, Muneer states that he would "discourage" men from having the fillers: "If anything, it might lead to complications that will impair their sexual function later on."
This seems to shed light on the motivations behind why men, like 27-year-old Abdul Hasan, opt for them. Speaking to the BBC ahead of his second set of fillers, he explains: "It makes me happy for some reason."
Hasan was undergoing the non-invasive procedure (usually an injection of around 15ml of hyaluronic acid) as a surprise gift to his girlfriend, who was also suitably surprised the first time he went through with it. "I thought, 'One more can't hurt'", he explains.
Told that he must wait four weeks before having sex, Hasan is more than happy to stick to the rules. "You don't really want complications with this sort of stuff," he explains. "Especially with your private parts."
Like many men, he is aware that it doesn't affect the erect girth or length, but can still see the benefits: "I had it done, and my confidence built back up. You've got nothing to hide any more." But is this reason for getting the procedure - which costs around $4,000 (£3,000) per time - a cause for concern?
Pornography has long suffered the finger of blame when it comes to issues as diverse as gender norms, misogyny and - of course - its unrealistic portrayal of how people look. As the embodiment of our fantasies, adult performers' relevance to what men and women desire is intrinsic.
However, some home truths underline just how unrealistic this bizarre portrayal of humankind is. While men often think of six inches as being average or even below average size, research conducted by King's College London and the NHS (National Health Service) blew these assumptions out of the water.
The 2015 study - which was actually the amalgamation of 17 different studies - looked at 15,000 men from all over the world. It found the average penis length to be only 5.1 inches when erect, with a girth of 4.6 inches. Only five per cent were longer than 6.3 inches. The flaccid penis, they found, had a greater circumference than length - with 3.6 inches for length and 3.67 inches for girth.
However, the idea that men might not impress is driving revenue for the clinics which, alarmingly, also deal with the complications. Often, the fillers cause infections which they then have to try and treat. "We then plan for surgery to either debride any dead tissue, or remove some of the filler," explains Mr Muneer. "A lot of the time, we're having to remove the whole penis shaft skin, and regraft it with skin from elsewhere in the body."
However, despite the risks, more and more men are willing to bite the bullet and opt for fillers. "I feel a lot bigger," says one patient, adding: "I feel really happy". Another, who had recently lost 50kg in weight, states: "I'd just feel a bit better if mine was a bit bigger."
This desire to gain confidence from some form of bodily transformation follows the increasing trend for men to spend more money and time than ever before on the way they look. Globalisation has, in some ways, led to the mass distribution of toxic ideas. Now, across the world, there are also men suffering from body dysmorphia - and using anabolic steroids in order to chase an inherently unattainable physique.
With increasingly medically-enhanced stars on our television screens, fillers have become an accepted part of the signature celebrity look. However, this more experimental procedure - in a far more sensitive area - is probably one to avoid, at least for now.

A non-surgical procedure that gives men a bigger manhood in minutes has been discovered.
In the ever-evolving world of cosmetic enhancements, men are now joining the ranks of those seeking treatments to boost their confidence, but this time, it's not about hairlines or abs.
A new procedure has taken the male makeover game to the next level, offering men the opportunity to enlarge their penises in just minutes.
According to Daily Mail, the non-surgical solution promises to add girth to their penises, and it’s as simple as getting filler injections, the same hyaluronic acid that women have used for years to plump their lips and cheeks.
This procedure, known as penile filler, involves injecting hyaluronic acid into the shaft of the penis, enhancing its girth and giving it a more uniform shape. It’s quick, painless, and doesn’t affect sexual sensation or performance.
And the best part? It’s done on your lunch break, with no need for a hospital stay.
Chris Fleischer, practice manager at Cosmetic Connection, opened up about details of the treatment in an interview with the outlet, sharing: "It's quite a simple procedure that enlarges the size of the penis. It primarily focuses on the girth, but it's non-surgical - you can walk in and walk out the same day."
The procedure takes only about 20 minutes and is done under local anesthetic, meaning discomfort is minimal.
However, there’s a catch. While you can walk out with a noticeably larger penis, you can’t use it immediately. "You cannot use it the same day," Fleischer said. "There's a recovery period of at least two weeks."
The treatment has gained popularity among men of all ages, especially those in their 40s who are newly single and navigating the dating world.
"It's not one type of guy," Fleischer said. "You get young men who are insecure, older men who've experienced shrinkage, and even some who just want their partner to enjoy sex more after childbirth."
Clinics are seeing a surge in bookings, with some performing up to ten procedures a week. While the treatment is designed primarily to enhance girth, it can also offer slight length gains, though it’s not a significant factor in this procedure. "For the non-surgical option, length gains aren't possible," Fleischer added.
The good news for men seeking a fuller experience is that research indicates women tend to prioritize girth over length.
But like any cosmetic enhancement, there’s a downside as the results from the filler don’t last forever. "It can last up to around three to five years," Fleischer said. "We usually recommend people come back every two years for a top-up."
And while the procedure may be tempting, it comes at a steep price as costs can range from $5,000 to $10,000 depending on the amount of filler used.
It’s also important to consider the long-term commitment. If your partner becomes accustomed to the enhanced experience, discontinuing the treatment could lead to some awkward conversations.
The final burning question: Can women tell if a man has had the procedure done? Fleischer confidently assures that "If it's done well, you can't tell."
For men insecure about their girth, penile filler offers a tempting, quick fix. However, experts suggest that confidence in other areas, such as rhythm, foreplay, and emotional connection, might be even more valuable than a physical enhancement.

A doctor has revealed a pretty X-rated way that men can prevent their penises from shrinking.
As we get older, our bodies tend to go through a lot of changes, and for some men, this can mean things getting smaller downstairs.
This probably isn't something that you'd tell anyone other than a doctor, but I imagine it would be quite difficult.
But fear not, because a doctor has a way to stop this from happening... though it's very NSFW.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Gen Z adults are reportedly having less sex than any previous generation, and this is alarming to experts.
Dr. Tara Suwinyattichaiporn, a sex and relationship expert, told the outlet that sexually inactive men could develop a rare condition known as penile atrophy.
This condition causes the tissue of the penis to lose elasticity, potentially shrinking by one to two centimeters.
"Most people need affection, touch, and sexual connections with others," Suwinyattichaiporn said.
Without these, she warned, mental health can deteriorate, leading to anxiety, depression, and increased stress levels.
In short, men should seek to have sex in order to stop their penis from shrinking.
A 2021 study from the University of California found that 38% of young adults aged 18 to 30 had not engaged in sexual activity in the previous year.
This marks a significant increase from past decades, with abstention rates nearly doubling since 2011.
According to Suwinyattichaiporn, going without sex for weeks, months, or even years can have detrimental effects on both mental and physical health.
"Sex releases hormones like oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin, which regulate emotions and boost mood," she explained.
The absence of these feel-good chemicals could lead to feelings of frustration, anxiety, and in some cases, aggression.
Sex therapist Sari Cooper highlighted how sexual droughts can strain relationships.
"If couples aren't having sex, they don’t approach their partner with softness or vulnerability," she told the Daily Mail. "They may resort to criticism or guilt to get their needs met."
For men, long-term abstinence poses even more severe risks, including an increased chance of developing prostate cancer.
Studies suggest that regular ejaculation may help prevent the build-up of carcinogens in the prostate.
Women, too, are not immune to the risks of sexual inactivity. When women go without sex for extended periods, they may experience vaginal atrophy, a condition where tissues become dry and thin, making intercourse painful.
Regular sexual activity helps maintain blood flow and tissue elasticity, which can prevent these issues.
To combat the psychological and physical impacts of sexual inactivity, Suwinyattichaiporn advised individuals to manage stress, as it can interfere with sexual desire.
"Stressed out people don't have the capacity to enjoy sex," she noted, suggesting stress-reduction techniques such as yoga, tai chi, meditation, and regular date nights with a partner.
