For many men dating women, the prospect of an accidental pregnancy is terrifying. Having a child is a life-changing experience, which requires a formidable amount of time, money and energy. It also permanently binds you to your romantic partner, regardless of how serious you consider your relationship. Sure, you can wear protection and she can take birth control, but sometimes, like Jeff Goldblum said in Jurassic Park, "Life finds a way."

18-year-old Izaak Torres from Costa Mesa, California, got a major shock when his girlfriend sent him an ominous text message at four in the morning. It read "Holy f*ck," with a picture of thermometer reading 100 degrees Fahrenheit. However, due to his groggy state of mind, Torres misinterpreted the thermometer as a positive pregnancy test. Whoops!

Can you imagine being 18 years old, about to break free of the shackles of high school and your parents' house, only to discover your girlfriend is pregnant? Actually, it's not that uncommon. We've all seen MTV's Teen Mom, or know people who got knocked up as teenagers - no judgement here! I'm sure some young couples were thrilled to be expecting, and have no regrets about their choices in life.

However, panicking about the pregnancy news is a perfectly valid reaction. Believing his girlfriend was knocked up, Torres responded with a series of freaked out texts: "How." "Wtf." "Your [sic] on birth control." "Baby." You can easily picture him sitting up in bed, sweating, with his own temperature approaching 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

His girlfriend, Vanessa Marie, shared the hilarious image on Twitter, writing, "I had a fever lastnight and my boyfriend thought the thermometer was a pregnancy test ??." The tweet went viral, getting more than 170,000 likes and a slew of hilarious comments.

The internet roasted Torres for his gaffe, with one person joking that he must read it as "you're 100% percent." Another Twitter user shared a photo of a thermometer reading 99.3 degrees, with the caption, "i'm having 99.3 kids omg." A third person called Torres out for his shoddy grammar, confusing 'your' and 'you're.' (An unforgivable sin, in my opinion.) And one woman snarked, "If I was with a dude that couldn’t tell the difference between a thermometer and a pregnancy test...I’d be eating birth control like M&Ms."

Some people found Torres' mix-up amusing, while others called him an "idiot" who was is clearly not ready to have a child. However, Marie stated that she found the incident funny, and she's not ready have to have a child yet either, so there. We all screw up sometimes; just laugh about it, internet!

When Torres woke up the next morning, he realized his mistake, and sent a flurry of texts to Marie: "I'm so sorry you feel that way baby please rest up and feel better." "I thought that was a pregnancy test." "Good morning babe i love you." So, it looks like their relationship is still great.

The moral of the story is, if you're a dude, take a moment to Google image "pregnancy test."
