A throuple from Santa Ana, California recently gave us an insight into their unique lives, sharing with us the "golden rule" that helps keep them together.

Alana Underwood, 25, Kevin, 32, and Megan, 35, have been in a relationship for three years now after Alana and Kevin agreed to open up their relationship to a third partner.

Speaking to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on a recent episode of the British daytime TV show, This Morning, the throuple opened up about their dynamics, including their bedtime situation.

"Alana and I were together for about three years before Alana did come to me and mention that she was bi-curious," the 32-year-old said, adding that his partner "wondered if I wanted to come on that journey with her."

"So we downloaded an app and we found Megan. And we've been together almost three years now," he told the hosts.

Megan then told viewers about her sexuality and how she had joined the same app because she wanted to experiment more with men.

"It was really out of curiosity that I tried something like this. I really wasn't expecting it to turn into love," she said.

Before embarking on such a risky journey, Alana said that she had confirmed that her and Kevin's relationship was strong enough to explore other options like this throuple.

Though she initially just wanted to find out if she was actually bi, she explained that since opening up their relationship to Megan, it's "been really awesome."

Kevin described Alana as "sensitive" when discussing the prospect with him, stating that she had "a very strong line of communication," and that "she brought it up to me and she had made comments here and there.

"She wanted to go through this and wanted to do it with me," he added.

Alana then went on to share some details about the couple's first date with Megan, claiming that it wasn't "awkward" in the slightest.

"It fell right in the first week in lockdown and quarantine, so it was hanging out at the house, it was very intimidating," she admitted. "Because it was my first time trying something like this, I was a nervous wreck. I don't think it was so awkward, I think we felt comfortable."

Now, you would think in a relationship such as this one, jealousy would crop up from time to time, but according to Megan and Kevin, it's not hindered them yet at all.

"We're all genuinely in love, our dynamic works really well together, I'm happy," Megan said.

"Jealousy is not really an issue. In the beginning we had some things we had to get used to. Now we equally have love for each other," Kevin said.

As per the Daily Mail, the threesome also revealed they observed a "golden rule" not to break into twos for the first six months of their relationship, but there was "no playbook."

They then revealed some intimate details about their bedtime situation.

"We do this thing we call the 'mac n cheese' method - because we're M, A, K, so every night we switch who is in the middle," Megan explained.

"Last night it was you," she said, pointing to Kevin. "So now I'll be in the middle tonight, and then we just rotate."

After the segment aired, the three became a talking point on Twitter with many social media users having a lot to say.

"Asking this throuple who sleeps in the middle: 'We rotate' Like a spit roast?", questioned one user.

Another struck off the idea, writing: "Everyone to their own but I wouldn’t like my partner being with another person, I think it would raise more problems, think of when you have an argument, do two of your 'throuple' gang up on you? Nah there’s no way I’d live like that, call me old fashioned but no."

And a third seemed to be tempted by the idea: "A Throuple. There's something I can get on board with. Not too sure about the missus though."

If it works, it works. We can only hope Alana, Kevin, and Megan continue to live their best lives with each other.
