Getting married is a big deal.

Besides spending an incredible amount of money on a wedding to prove your love for each other, there's also this whole idea of monogamy that naturally comes with the experience.

Long gone are the days of dating apps and casual hookups, now it's all about working together to have a healthy and fulfilling relationship with one person.

However, one bride has opened up about why she decided to go against the norm and let the groom sleep with her bridesmaid on their wedding night.

Katey is a 26-year-old woman from Plymouth in the United Kingdom and she decided to get married to her boyfriend Dan, who is 25, in an intimate event in Devon.

Though the process seemed to be your average commitment ceremony, the pair opened up about their unconventional setup.

Speaking during an episode of Love Don't Judge on YouTube, Katey explained that this all began when she and Dan had met another couple on a retreat who introduced them to the idea of open relationships.

And from there, the couple started getting familiar with the idea before they started exploring it with others - which included their close friends.

After officially tying the knot, Katey recalled the moment when the pair had asked one of the bridesmaids to join them in their bedroom on their wedding night.

"We ended up taking one of my girlfriends up to our bedroom. We had some drinks and ended up having a threesome with her and it was really fun," she said during the episode. "She's one of my best friends so it was very comfortable."

"To do it on such a special day just makes it so memorable," Dan added of the unique experience.

While the pair might be comfortable with the nature of their relationship, Katey admitted that her family isn't as supportive, branding she and Dan as "friends with benefits."

"I think a lot of the judgement I received has been from my family. They disapproved of what I was doing and they don't really speak to me anymore because of it," Katey added, saying that they think of it as "disgusting."

But despite the ups and down with Katey’s family's opinions, the couple are sure that they still have many friends who support their lifestyle.

When asked they are ever prone to feeling jealous when the other is intimate with friends, Dan said: "The jealousy is kind of part of it, it makes things more exciting."

Each to their own, right?
