A woman has divided the internet by revealing the self-confessed "toxic" way that she and her friends keep tabs on men.

"Me and a few of my girlfriends share a fake Instagram to creep people," @esraroseaa revealed in a now-viral TikTok video. "This Instagram we’ve really worked on over the past few years. It looks real. Any time an ex or a current guy, we need to creep them or who they follow, we use this account. So toxic."

Since the video was posted three days ago, it has been viewed over two million times and received over 290K likes and over 6K comments.

It was captioned: "Yes I know it's toxic, every girl has a fake account, and yes I've talked to my therapist about it and she doesn't approve #fyp #toxic".

The comments section, however, was divided, with many revealing that they and their friends have a similar fake Instagram profile for stalking purposes and saying that it's a very useful thing to have and others who simply agreed that it was toxic behavior.

TikTok user Tanya Marie wrote alongside a laughing emoji: "I'm not seeing the toxic.. i'm seeing safe. I am seeing smart. its actually brilliant. you girls have unlocked the key to it all [sic]."

A second wrote: "I did it with a snap account and got the snap score high and I do [it] to anyone I'm speaking to catch them out [and] caught my ex cheating on it."

A third, while acknowledging that it was toxic behavior, simultaneously saw the upside to it: "It may be 'toxic' but none of y'all are gunna get duped & honestly I think that's great. One less unnecessary heart break [sic]."

A fourth tagged their friends with a similar sentiment, writing: "toxic and I love it."

Meanwhile, a fifth revealed how they had used this very tactic to get revenge on their ex.

They wrote: "I made my ex fall back in love with me after he cheated and broke my heart and then I rejected him and made him hear about my guy problems."

What do you think of this behavior? Is it toxic or a stroke of genius?
