A woman with two belly buttons has revealed the weird reason behind her extra navel.
Jenny from Wicklow in Ireland appeared on UK chat show The Graham Norton Show last Friday (October 21) to explain why doctors think she has a second belly button.
Rather than just being a random mutation, medical experts have advised Jenny that the belly button once belonged to her twin - but that she "absorbed them in the womb".
She gave viewers a full rundown of the disturbing diagnosis during the show's 'red chair segment', in which members of the public are invited to tell an interesting story or secret.
The twist is that host Graham Norton reserves the right to literally dump the storyteller out of the seat if their tale isn't entertaining enough.
In a bid to keep Norton's attention, Jenny started her story strong by telling him: "I have two belly buttons and I use them to get free drinks."
After being asked to elaborate on this bizarre claim, Jenny explained that she really does have two "legit" belly buttons.
Watch Jenny tell the full story below:"Doctors think I could have absorbed my twin in the womb," she said.
Once this shocking piece of information had been absorbed by Norton and his celebrity guests (Stormzy, Geena Davis, Stephen Graham and Motsi Mabuse), Jenny launched into a story about how she celebrated her birthday one year in Queenstown, New Zealand.
"There was an Irish bartender in one of the bars, and I'd shown him the belly buttons the night before, and I'd gotten some free drinks out of it," she recalled.
Hoping to continue getting free drinks, Jenny returned to the bar and asked if she could be treated. The bartender agreed - on the condition that she showed her unique feature to another member of staff who was terrified of belly buttons.
"I showed them to her and she completely freaked out and started crying and left and they high-fived me and gave me free [drinks] for the rest of the night," Jenny said.
The story earned her a round of applause from the audience - but Norton wouldn't let her leave that easily. He asked if Jenny would give him and his guests a glimpse of her double belly buttons before she left. Jenny happily obliged.
While absorbing a twin in the womb may sound terrifying, it is actually not as uncommon as people might think. According to Healthline, the phenomenon is known as 'Vanishing twin syndrome'; it occurs when an embryo stops developing and is absorbed by either the mother or the surviving embryo.
"A vanishing twin can also occur before a person’s first ultrasound appointment, which typically happens at 12 weeks unless the pregnancy is considered high-risk," the website explains, adding: "That means that in many cases of vanishing twin, parents and doctors never know. "
