Now that we have been forced to stay at home for the foreseeable future, many of us are making our abodes as comfortable as possible, and more often than note, this involves houseplants.

They're a chance to bring a little life into otherwise drab rooms, and give us something to look after, which, let's face it, can only be a good thing!

However, not all houseplants are created equally, and you can now buy mermaid tail succulents, and they're absolutely magical.

I mean seriously, who'd have thought there was a plant out there that looked like a mermaid's tail? These are Insta-perfect.

According to Gardenia, the plant, which is officially known as Senecio vitalis, looks like a mix between a succulent and cactus, and unlike the majority of plants, it grows away from light sources instead of toward them.

On the subject of mermaids, check out this mermaid-inspired feature wall:

The mermaid succulent can grow to a pretty impressive size, reaching a height of one to two feet high and a width of three to five feet. Its bright green color is the perfect addition to any ocean-themed or neutral-colored room.

Native to the cape of South Africa, the crested Senecio vitalis grows in the winter and is dormant in the summer, which sets it apart from the vast majority of succulents.

But looks aside, these plants are super easy to care for, so they're perfect for even the laziest of houseplant owners. All you need to do is put it into the sun or light shade to let it grow, and provide it with sand or well-drained soil.

Because it comes from such a warm climate, the Senecio vitalis is extremely drought resistant, so even if you're forgetful when it comes to watering it, you should still have a healthy plant.

If this looks like the perfect, magical addition to your plant collection, call up your local plant store to see if they have any in stock, or alternatively, keep a close eye on Etsy, where the highly sought after plant is occasionally for sale.
