It's a fact that, when most people think of Marvel comics, they invariably think of Spider-Man.
Ever since the costumed web-slinger made his debut way back in 1962, he's been one of the most popular superheroes in fiction, and it's easy to see why: he's a working-class, teenage hero who struggles to do the right thing with his powers even though it makes his life harder. Someone who never gets recognition for their heroics, and yet fights for justice, is an incredibly relatable character.

Spider-Man has now appeared in a number of movies: from the initial Sam Raimi trilogy (starring Tobey McGuire) to The Amazing Spider-Man duology (starring Andrew Garfield).
More recently, a number of different incarnations met in the animated movie Into The Spider-Verse, which teamed a middle-aged Peter Parker up with alternate versions of Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales.
When it was announced that Spider-Man would be brought into the MCU in Captain America: Civil War, fans were delighted - especially when Tom Holland's endearingly earnest interpretation of the character proved to be a smashing success.

The MCU Spider-Man has thus far appeared in five Disney-made films. But now, in a shocking twist, it appears that Disney has lost the movie rights to the character again.
Indeed, Spider-Man's appearance in the mainstream Marvel movies was only made possible because of a deal made with Sony pictures in 2015, who bought the film rights to the web-head back in 1999, when the comic book industry was struggling financially.
Fans were first alerted to the bad news at this year's Comic-Con; when Marvel's announcements for its next phase of films and TV shows made no reference to Spider-Man at all.

Sony Pictures has released a statement on Twitter, in which they have attempted to explain the situation to anxious Marvel fans. A spokesperson for the studio wrote: "Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterised recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live-action Spider-Man film."
They continued: "We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him – including all their newly added Marvel properties – do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own. Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue."

On social media, many fans have been left despondent by the news, and at least one prominent Avenger expressed hope that Spider-Man will still have a home in the ongoing cinematic universe.
Taking to Instagram, Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner uploaded a picture of himself in costume as the master archer, and captioned the pic: "Hey @sonypictures we want Spider-Man back to @therealstanlee and @marvel please, thank you #congrats #spidermanrocks#? #please [sic]"

Sadly, it seems as though this rights crisis now means that the Wolverine, Deadpool and Spider-Man spin-off movie that was reportedly in the works will have to be shelved. Man, I haven't been this bummed out about Spider-Man since the whole Clone Saga debacle...

Most people will recognize 95-year-old Stan Lee for his numerous cameo appearances in Marvel movies - and for good reason. After all, he created most of them, co-creating Spider-Man, the X-Men, Thor, Black Panther, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, and Black Widow. His estate is estimated to be worth up to $70 million, and it's been reported he receives $1 million a year from Marvel, but his finances may be in trouble.
Lee requires nursing care at home and on the road but insists on still visiting comic conventions, signing autographs for thousands of fans. However, according to an article published by The Hollywood Reporter, there is a battle raging over Lee's estate that may involve elderly abuse. Members of his inner circle have reportedly been misusing his fortune, and interested parties have further exploited him following the death of his wife last July.
The document the website obtained explained how he and his wife set up a trust for his 67-year-old daughter Joan Celia, known as JC, due to her economic troubles. Lee's attorney at the time, Tom Lallas, went through the document line by line before it was signed by the comic book writer. It explains how JC has "never held any meaningful job" and has been unable to support herself, blowing away her parent's money and demanding more each time.
"When JC and I disagree," Lee wrote, "She typically yells and screams at me and cries hysterically if I do not capitulate to her demands." Altercations with JC even turned physical in the past, with one event leaving her mother with a large bruise and Lee with a contusion on his skull. In addition to this, the document explains that three men with "bad intentions" influenced his daughter, taking advantage of both her and Lee.
[[instagramwidget||https://www.instagram.com/p/Beqm3CzFO7R/?hl=en&taken-by=therealstanlee]]
The document explains that Jerry Olivarez, Keya Morgan and JC's attorney, Kirk Schenck all "insinuated themselves into relationships with JC for an ulterior motive and purpose" in order to "gain control over [Lee’s] assets, property and money". Keya Morgan seems to be in the most dominant position, with Olivarez believing he has been distanced from Lee by a smear campaign.
Morgan, a noted dealer in rare American memorabilia, was name-dropped in the document, but after the declaration was notarized Lee fired his attorney and apparently changed his mind. In the time since, Morgan has become central to Lee's life, apparently monitoring and composing his emails because of his poor eyesight.

THR reports that Lee has a "people-pleasing habit" of telling people what they wanted to hear, makes bad financial decisions like never cashing in on Marvel properly, and has a "Depression-bred distrust of banks" - which it is rumored led him to hide cash all over his property. With these features and the death of his wife, many believe he may be vulnerable to those who want to exploit him.
Linda Sanchez came on board as one of Lee's nurses following the death of his wife and said that she witnessed moments where he was exploited by his inner circle. However, she claims Morgan made it clear to her that he would go to the media about a past DUI and misdemeanor hit-and-run incident if she were to report her claims. Later, the Daily Mail reported what Sanchez described as a fabricated physical relationship between her and Lee, as well as detailing her record. When asked, Morgan claimed he didn't leak anything and bears her no ill will.
Since the article has been released, Stan Lee released a video dismissing all the claims made. In the video, he claims the document is "totally incorrect, inaccurate, misleading and insulting" and is calling the entire story fake news. "My relationship with my daughter has never been better," he said, "and my friend Keya Morgan and I also have a great relationship … anybody who is saying anything [else] … is just spreading lies."
[[youtubewidget||https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sK_Syo6LwFQ]]
Many have found the video a little disturbing, especially since the man filming the statement is Keya Morgan himself. Fans are coming together to support him, including filmmakers and fans Kevin Smith, Seth Green and Felicia Day.

Bradley Herman, Lee's former business and asset manager said of the matter:
"I'm on the verge of tears, because it breaks my heart to see somebody that I love being effectively held prisoner. He finds himself in need of a superhero himself."
The full Hollywood Reporter article is worth reading in full, as it covers the complex story in depth. It is clear that, regardless of who is telling the truth, there are some people out there exploiting Lee's vulnerability and trusting nature for their own ends.

When it was first announced that Spider-Man would be brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans were over the moon, especially when Tom Holland's performance proved to be a smashing success. The MCU incarnation of the character has now appeared in a total of five different movies since his initial appearance.
Yet now, Disney has apparently lost the movie rights to the character again; with Spider-Man and his relevant characters, which means that they have reverted back to Sony Pictures. This means that the MCU will no longer be able to include Peter Parker.

The response on social media has been pretty drastic, with many superhero fans bemoaning the loss of such an iconic character. They've been so upset in fact that they've decided to enlist the help of a certain Canadian actor who's famous for playing a different Marvel character.
Earlier today, an MCU fan tweeted Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds, asking for his help keeping Spider-Man in the popular Disney-owned franchise. The fan wrote: "Can we get a Spiderman & Deadpool movie now @VancityReynolds @TomHolland1996."

Sadly though, it didn't take Reynolds long to respond with a negative, writing: "You can. But you can only see it in my heart." Of course, some fans didn't take this news too well and took to the comments to react to this response.

Indeed, sadly it seems as though the loss of rights means that MCU fans are probably never going to be able to see the Spider-Man, Wolverine and Deadpool movie that was rumoured to be in the pipeline.

Ever since the acquisition of Fox by Disney went through, there's only one thing on the minds of comic book fans: when are we going to get Deadpool cracking wise with the rest of the colourful cast in the MCU?
It took us a while to get a faithful adaptation of the character to screen (better luck next time, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), but we eventually got there, and it's made us hungry for even more Deadpool interacting with more characters - just like in the comics.
If you're an avid comic reader, you'll know that some of the best Deadpool collabs are the team-ups between Deadpool and the other wisecracker in a red costume, Spider-Man. And if Marvel are to be believed, that tried-and-tested route could be the best avenue for Deadpool to make it into the MCU.
At the moment, Marvel are trying to figure out what to do with Deadpool now that they own the character once more, and one of their options is to introduce him in the third Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland, which will follow July's Spider-Man: Far From Home.

MCU Cosmics say that Disney subsidiary Marvel are exploring different ways of bringing the Merc with a Mouth into the MCU.
While there are rumblings of him being introduced to the Disney+ streaming platform or having his own solo movie, having him in the next Spider-Man film does indeed confirm that there'll be at least one more solo film with Tom Holland as everybody's favourite arachnid-based superhero.
Check out Tom Holland training in the gym for his Spider-Man role. This is seriously impressive:

The Disney+ option may be a no-go, since all the shows on there at the moment are at a PG 13 rating, while Deadpool... is decidedly not that. We might have a solo movie to look forward to, but regardless of whether he's in the next Spider-Man film, we can start to look forward to Deadpool in the MCU at some point!

Tom Holland and Zendaya have reportedly "confirmed" their real-life romance after the actors were photographed kissing in Los Angeles on Thursday.
As reported by Page Six, the two Spider-Man stars were caught on camera putting on a PDA while taking a ride in Holland’s $125,000 Audi sports car.
After Holland, 25, was photographed caressing Zendaya's face as they shared a kiss, the pair were then snapped pulling a hilariously cute face at one another.
Page Six notes that the images were taken in the Silver Lake neighborhood of LA - not far from where 24-year-old Zendaya's mother lives.
However, as of this writing, neither of the actors have confirmed the "romance" (and knowing these two, we could all be being played here). Nevertheless, with the apparent news that MJ and Spider-Man have actually hooked up in real life, their fans quickly rushed to social media to share their reactions.
And the Twitter responses have been a goldmine when it comes to wholesome and hilarious content.
Some people were just straight-up jealous:
Others couldn't get over how cute the pair were:
One response pointed out that we've seen this before from Spider-Man actors:
Some Marvel fans are still holding out hope for another MCU couple:
And others were convinced that the pair were definitely playing us:
Well... that last tweet certainly hit me hard.
And it is true, both Holland and Zendaya are gearing up for the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is currently due for release around the Christmas period.
Despite many rumors swirling around regarding the plot of the movie (*cough* multiverse *cough*), not a lot is actually known about what fans can expect from the upcoming third installment. However, per The Digital Fix, both Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina are set to return as villains Electro and Doctor Octopus respectively - meaning a multiverse storyline is pretty much confirmed, right?
But in regards to these paparazzi pics - let's hope we get some clarification sooner rather than later.
