Police searching for Brian Laundrie said that there are inconsistencies and "oddness" in the stories told by his parents.

On September 15, 23-year-old Brian was named a person of interest, four days after 22-year-old Gabby was reported missing by her parents.

As the manhunt for the fugitive continues, North Port Police have spoken to NewsNationNow about what they've heard from Brian's parents.

"What the family has told us is that he drove out to the park and walked out into the woods," North Port Police spokesperson Josh Taylor told the outlet.

"I don't necessarily know what to believe anymore. I think it's certainly possible that they're expressing what they know, but we'll see. This is an ongoing investigation that will continue to evolve," he added.

The interviewer questioned the fact that Laundrie reportedly drove his Mustang to the nature reserve, and his parents reportedly drove it back.

"We've said from the beginning there's a lot of oddness here, a lot of things that just didn't make sense," Taylor said.

"I mean your son walks out there, now they're saying on a Monday, you know, to report that on a Friday, and then be confused on what day that was. I mean there are a lot of things that are odd there."

Laundrie's parents changed their story about what day Laundrie left their home, admitting that he vanished a day earlier than they previously told police.

It comes as Brian's father Chris agreed to join the FBI's search for his fugitive son.

Lawyer Steven Bertolino said on October 6 that North Port police asked that Christopher Laundrie help officials find his son, who has been missing since September 14.

Bertolino told Fox News: "Chris Laundrie was asked to assist law enforcement in their search for Brian at the preserve today. Since the preserve has been closed to the public, Chris has not been able to look for Brian in the only place Chris and Roberta believe Brian may be."

Brian and Gabby were traveling across the country in her white van and had been visiting state national parks on the West Coast before she suddenly disappeared.

On September 1, Brian returned to the North Port home that he shared with both Gabby and his parents - without his fiancée.

On September 17, Brian's mother and father told authorities that they had not seen their son since September 14.

On September 19, human remains were found in Teton County, Wyoming, which the FBI stated were "consistent with the description" of Gabby. Two days later, it was confirmed that the remains belonged to Gabby.
