You'd think that the entire world would be happy about Brendan Fraser winning the 2023 Best Actor Oscar...

With 'The Brenaissance' truly underway, fans were delighted to see 54-year-old Fraser scoop his first Oscar at last night's 95th Acadamy Awards.

The beloved star won the top prize for his role as Charlie - the 600-pound reclusive teacher and desperate father - in Darren Aronofsky's The Whale.

Fighting back tears as he accepted the award, Fraser said during his acceptance speech: "So this is what the multiverse looks like!"

He continued by thanking Aronofsky for directing such a "bold film" and his fellow nominees for their "whale-sized hearts".

Check out his amazing speech below:

And one of those fellow nominees just happened to be Austin Butler - whose breakout role in the rock 'n' roll biopic Elvis saw him earn critical acclaim for his captivating portrayal of one of music's greatest performers.

In fact, the role saw him earn the Golden Globe Award and BAFTA for Best Actor - therefore, you can only forgive his fans for thinking the 31-year-old had the Oscar in the bag.

But, sadly things did not go Butler's way on the night, resulting in his fans taking to Twitter to protest the Academy's decision.

"Austin Butler should have won," one fan tweeted. "He personified the King, studied his every move, sang the songs perfectly, had the moves, and literally morphed into Elvis himself. I'm so disappointed he didn't win. I'd never even heard of The Whale before tonight. How disappointing!

A second added: "I don’t think people understand that Austin Butler embodied Elvis for 3 years, so of course he’s gonna sound like Elvis. He should have won that Oscar in my opinion, he worked so hard, not only for himself but for Elvis and the Elvis family."

And a third disappointed viewer wrote: "Austin Butler should have won! Will never watch the [Oscars] again! Good night and thanks for the waste of a good evening!"

Another tweeted: "Austin Butler put everything he had into that performance, to perfect the art and he’s really being bullied for it. It’s his JOB. And he did it WELL. He deserved to win. #Oscar"

And a fifth Twitter user added: "Austin Butler was robbed. In all of the Elvis bio movies ever made, he was supreme. The Academy got this one wrong."
